Got this in my e-mail but it looks legit. Seems like Denzel Washington might be a class act.
Don't know whether you heard about this but Denzel Washington and his family visited the troops at Brook Army Medical Center, in San Antonio,Texas (BAMC) the other day. This is where soldiers that have been evacuated from Germany come to be hospitalized in the States, especially burn victims. They have buildings there called Fisher Houses. The Fisher House is a hotel where soldiers' families can stay, for little or no charge, while their soldier is staying in the hospital. BAMC has quite a few of these houses on base but as you can imagine, they are almost completely filled most of the time.

While Denzel Washington was visiting BAMC, they gave him a tour of one of the Fisher Houses. He asked how much one of them would cost to build. He took his check book out and wrote a check for the full amount right there on the spot. The soldiers overseas were amazed to hear this story and want to get the word out to the American public, because it warmed their hearts to hear it.

The question I have is why does Alec Baldwin, Modonna, Sean Penn and other Hollywood types make front page news with their anti-everything America crap and this doesn't even make page 3 in the Metro section of any newspaper except the base newspaper in San Antonio.

That was on Snopes. If I remember correctly its mostly true. He did make a large donation, but it wasn't enough by itself to build a new Fisher house. He also didn't wip out a check book and "fill out a check right there on the spot".

Denzel Washington

Claim: Actor Denzel Washington made a large donation to the Fisher House Foundation after visiting Brooke Army Medical Center.

Status: Multiple — see below.
Denzel Washington visited Brooke Army Medical Center and made a substantial donation to the Fisher House Foundation: True.

Denzel Washington whipped out his checkbook and "wrote a check out for the full amount (for a new Fisher House) right there on the spot": False.

It goes on to say however...

According to the Fisher House Foundation, when Denzel Washington was at Fort Sam Houston in December 2004, he did visit its Fisher House and learn of their need for additional facilities, and he did later make a substantial donation to the Fisher House Foundation (amount undisclosed, but it was described as "one of the most significant received in our history" by James Weiskopf, the foundation's vice president for communications), but he did not, as described above, "get out his checkbook" on the spot and write a check for the full amount needed to construct a new building.

I don't think the truth takes anything away from the e-mail. I'm proud for him.

I really like him as an actor...I think he's awesome. I just didn't care for him in Man on Fire, but that may be because his character wasn't likeable and it was just a hard movie to watch in general.

BUY MAN ON FIRE!!!!!
It was a good movie, but I don't know if I can/will ever watch it again. It was really hard to watch and it was REALLY sad.

If even for one scene, it's worth it for the background music (NIN: The Mark Has Been Made) :D

It's rare for me to find a denzel washington movie I dont like. (minus a few ofcourse), but its great to know that not only is he a great actor but a great person also.

and man on fire is one of my favorite movies. way better than the orginal IMHO, sad but i think thats one reason i like it. not every movie should have happy endings & cinderella stories.

HELL YEAH! I love how that song was like the ONLY song throughout the movie.

I almost creamed myself when I heard it. What a perfect fit for that movie.

What a class act, bless you Denzil.

I liked Man on Fire. I thought his character in it was a better person than the "Training Day" guy, he was slimey.

My favorite quote from Man on Fire....

Rayburn: A man can be an artist... in anything, food, whatever. It depends on how good he is at it. Creasey's art is death. He's about to paint his masterpiece.

You might want to add a spoiler warning to some of your guys posts about man on fire, while not a true story people will see it and generally get the drift if they havent seen the movie

Eh, Man on Fire was out about a year ago. If it was right in theaters now, and explicitly spilled the ending (rather then saying it was sad) I could see reason for a spoiler warning...

This does bring back some memories. As I remember, I think I made a few comments last year wrt this movie...

This is ****ing pathetic. I turn on the news and I'm blasted with constant ****ing partisan bull**** yet this goes unnoticed. I hope Connie Chung chokes on Dan Rather's dick and takes a chunk out of him while she's at it.
