Very nice. :)

Fantastic performance , though this brings the question of which CPU to be more future proof .. the X2 4800+ or the FX-57 ? (gaming wise of course)

Hmm hard to say... remember the interview I had with Tim Sweeney, where he said that the game will support Dual CPU's...

Hmm... im a bit confused, I realize the FX-57 is a couple steps higher than my CPU is overclocked, but I just ran 3dMark 05 and I only get a CPU score of about 4400. How does an FX57 get 2400 high than that? Something isnt right with my setup im thinking... :(

Maybe the extra L2 cache?

I dont know, that seems like an awful big difference... what do you get for a CPU score in 3dMark05?

They may also have been using ridiculous RAM, too, don't forget.

My opinion would almost certainly be the 4800+. Although we don't know yet, it seems likely that almost all semi-high profile titles from this Christmas on will start to move to multi-threaded design principles, if only so that there's some semi-straightforward possibility of porting to XBOX 360.

That's a dream system of dream systems.

Dual Opteron dual cores would be even sweeter. I can't recall their name or numbering system, but two of the high-high end dual cores would just be...ridiculous.

Yea, I agree. Something's not right with the 3dmark05 test they conducted. Here is my 3dmark05 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=942319) score. This is a FX-55 (San Diego) clocked at 2800.

It looks like most games coming out by the end of this year will support dual-core CPUs. So I think the X2 4800+ is more future proof than the FX-57.

I would shell out my $$ for an X2 4400+. These are godlike, more futureproof, and are will become better when time comes. They even OC superbly.

I want one so bad...but I think I'd go the 4400+ route with 1MB L2 for each core. mmmm...I'm getting excited just thinking about upgrading my computer next year. :)

I can't wait until the PhysX card comes out, too...

Is it true that Athlon 64FX outsells Intel EE by almost 2:1?

I hope it is, but seriously doubt it. AMD will not reach the masses until Dell starts selling their processors.

I actually believe that is true.

Enthusiasts buy the high end stuff. They know whats better. I have more customers asking for the FX-55 than the EE... I don't get asked for it much, but I almost never had anyone ask for an EE.

Well... Intel has Dothan 780 now, it kills every current AMD CPU, even a FX57, CLOCK FOR CLOCK. Still, X2 4400+ is a perfect CPU IMO, combined with 2xR520's or 2x7800GTX's... mmm. Can't wait for next x-mas.

I'm a n00b to the 64-bit AMD CPU scene. What is the pecking order for AMD CPU cores?
Venice < Winchester < Newcastle < San Diego < Toledo < Manchester ?
It's always true that A64 < FX at a given clock speed? What about A64 X2 vs. FX at a given clock speed?

Gotta build my SLI rig on a good foundation, but I've never looked at 939 CPUs seriously.

I was at local store today & the salesman told me theres a guy who came just last 2 weeks wanting to build his PC with best hardware available. he took a FX-55 & dual 6800Us.
i dont want to see the look in his face when he sees this or the X2s .. plus the launch of the 7800 which is coming soon heh ..

the launch of the 7800 which is coming soon heh ..Tuesday.

Yeah, I bought a Barton 3000+, nForce2 and a 5800U March 2003, the week they all hit retail, spend $1400, and within a month the same rig could have been had for under $1000.

that's why I'm reluctant to spend $700 on a CPU ever again. The opportunity cost of the extra MHz isn't worth it to me. I'll use a $200 A64 until the FX or A64 X2 are in that price range.

Athlon FX 57 benchmarks are overall not impressed, the only thing getting faster are games, but at the same price you better off get Athlon 64 X2 4800+, it overclock to 2.8GHz very easy without problems that will match or overtake FX 57 in games. Now Athlon 64 X2s are sold out (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.watch.impress.co.jp%2 Fakiba%2Fhotline%2F20050618%2Fetc_64x2box.html&langpair=ja%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=%2Flanguage_tools), it very popular, it seem people are now recognised it better spent on dual core X2 than FX.

How do we know the 4800+ overclocks very easily up to 2.8? Not that many people have them yet.
