I know I saw a thread about this before, but I can't find it.

So which one of these is faster/ better deal ?

6800 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814122193

or

6600GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143027

I know about the unlocking w Rivatuner, but the stock 6800 is still faster isn't it ?

Yeah the stock 6800 is faster, with 12 pixel pipelines and 256-bit memory. 6600GT only has 8 pipelines and 128-bit memory.

The 6800 is faster & in your case better deal too!

a friendly reminder though .. you could wait for the new generation cards to arrive & get a better card in case you can afford it. a 7600 would be a great deal i reckon.

The Leadtek 6800 by a long shot. More fillrate, more bandwidth, and the ability to play HDR Far Cry and SC:CT. With such a large copper heatsink you should be able to really crank up the clocks. I doubt it will be modable though, most board partners have switched to the NV41 core which only has 12 pipes. For less than $200 that card is a steal. :D

I think he'll be waiting a good long while before the 7600 comes out.

Isn't the NV41 a PCI-Express chip?

Yes, Pci-e only.

Get the $190 bux 6800. much better than the 66Gt for $220bux. IMO

Woah, I like th deal on that Leadtek one.

Instead of posting a new thread. I'm willing to spend 300 dollars. Is the next generation going to have card around that price?

The estimates are about $750 - see http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24078 (7800 pricing in UK)

But you should get a 6800GT - I got my Leadtek for 205 GBP / $309 (top of this page) !

I know it has been a while. Since you guys gave me such good advice, I had to post back with what I ended up doing. :)

I got a PNY 6800 for $160 and unlocked everything with no problems. Just overclocking it to 350/750 raises 3DMark03 scores 500 points! Here is a comparason of 03, completely stock and then unlocked running 350/750.

Thanks for the advice everybody! :D

So, uh, what resolution and refresh rate are you running it at?

I would think that with a 17" CRT display, you would be at 1280 x 960 probably...

If you go 1600 x 1200, what refresh rate can you push on that monitor?

Right now I have my monitor set at 1024x768@85HZ, and use 115% DPI. At 1600 x 1200, 75hz is the max.

I have been wanting to try different resolutions but haven't done it yet. To me it's a pain in the arse resizing the picture on the monitor. That's why I haven't messed with it yet.

I ran 3DMark03 again w the 77.77 drivers and got 10,205 (http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=4190830 ) @ 350/750. The card idles at 51c and after running 3DM03 3 times, the highest temp reached was 79c at a room temperature of 78f.

BTW: I wanted to edit the title of my first post so others could find it by searching, but the edit button is missing from my original post. :(
