X850XTPE owned:
Watch the graph again.
X850 XT PE > 6800 Ultra
6800 Ultra <- owned: same way X850 XT PE is owned in Doom 3.
If you are comparing 7800 GTX to the X850 XT PE, then its like comparing Geforce Ti 4600 to 9700 Pro.

I know I made that post having some guys post on my mind saying X850XT only loses to (or wins) 7800GTX by a tiny bit and 7800GTX is not so great etc...
Cannot find his post now, should've quoted him too.

not really
x850xtpe came into shops just 4 months before 7800gtx
4600 was already a granparents when 9700pro has been released :D
about the future: nvidia has 2 great advantages over ati:
1 has a new gen card out months before ati
2 still has 2 "hidden" weapons: ultra and 512 mb ram :p

The 7800GTX is not the usual higher clock refresh, hence the clear advantage. They've had a year to tweak the chip. Comparisons are being made now as they were then when the 9700 Pro was released, each company's fastest card available. ATI needs the R520 out ASAP. They are currently facing strong competition as the X850XT-PE is seriously lacking in both features and speed compared to the 7800GTX.
Anyway, after reading some older articles again, I can't believe what a monster the 9700 Pro was. Very much like what we had last year. :)

Must be a CPU bound game.
We need faster CPU's for sure.

Some benchies on the XFX 7800GTX OC
http://hardware.gamespot.com/Story-ST-20561-2205-9-9-x
Out of the box 8,025 3DMK05 :)
Would be great if you could bench with LOCK ON MODERN AIRCRAFT COMBAT. That game takes hell of a grunt to run on any PC.
With my 6800GT @ 1600*1200 and highest in-game settings(without AA/AF) it gets 10-25fps. Even Dual SLI 6800ULTRA might have trouble running that game. Lets see what 7800GTX can pull out.
I love the LOMAC, its so much fun. By far the best flight sim. I have ever played.
My Specs: AMD 64 3500+@ 2.4Ghz, Leadtek 6800GT 391/1100 FW enabled, MSI Neo2, Z680, Antec 550, blablabla.
LOMAC version 1.2 - F-15 Extreme Track - In-Game Graphics - High - Sound On
Athlon 64 4000+ - GeForce 7800 GTX - 1GB RAM
Fraps was used to record the avg/min frame rate from the first 60 seconds of the demo.
Resolution - 1600x1200
Driver Image Setting - Quality
0X AA - No AF - 32.1 / 19
0X AA - 8X AF - 30.2 / 19
2X AA - 8X AF - 30.0 / 18
4X AA - 8X AF - 29.3 / 17
w/Gamma Correct AA and SS Transparency AA - 28.6 / 17
w/Driver Image Setting of High Quality - 28.6 / 17
That's one heck of a CPU limited game :)
Note: The in-game graphics setting of high has all options at their highest setting except for water (high vs. very high) and visibility range (medium vs. high).
wow thanks for the info mikec.... you wouldnt happen to know why all flight sims are always cpu limited would ya ..

i'd guess it has to do w/ all the physics calculations going on.

There's some benchmarks results for LOMAC in the xbit-labs review that i posted cand nothing, not even 7800GTX SLI could crack the 30 fps barrier in that review, even in the "pure speed" benchmark :)
