View Full Version : 6800gt makes a high pitch beep on startup

I just got a Leadtex a400 6800gt graphics card. The installation seemed to go smoothly until i turned the computer on. The card makes a really high pitch beep noise that doesnt stop. The monitor acts like it isnt connected to anything, and i have to hold down the power button to turn it off because the noise is unbearable.
Any ideas of whats wrong??

oh yeah i have an asus a7v8x motherboard, 1gb of corsair ram, and an athlon 2400+xp.
I guess the obvious question is... did you remember to plug the molex connector into the back of the card for auxilliary power. The card is supposed to scream at you if you don't.

I got it used, so it didnt come with instructions, and for a second i thought the guy jacked me.
Ill try pluging it in.
heh, yea actually mine would boot without the molex connector in o_O. my evga fx5900u would actually come up with a red screen which told you to plug in the molex connector.
yea, i'd say that's probably what it is.

long beep usually means card loose not plugged in or ram loose. just for future reference hehe

I'd also check if the card is firmly inserted in the slot, it might have contact problems.
