Wonder where that high moral highground has gone.
"We are dealing with these accusations very severely so that they do not tarnish the rest of our forces in the country," he added.
For example not firing into unarmed crowds?
Always funny that when troops who are not from America do this nobody gives a flying f*ck about it, the second a US troop picks his nose in a unfriendly manner it is plastered all over the news.

Yes, I have to admit the double-standard gets annoying sometimes. But it is great to see France with their foot in their mouths.

I always thought there was once a great, brave, Frenchman...then I found out Napolean was not French by birth!

Yeah I know, if an American troop would have done this OMG it would have hit the fan.

Short answer, Corsican...Italian.
Napoleon Bonepart was born on the island of Corsica on August 15, 1769. Fascinatingly the most celebrated French leader of all time as a boy and youth hated the French and and France. Corsica for generations had been ruled by Genoa and historically and linguistically Corsica was more Italian than French. A year before Napoleon's birth, the French had ceased Corscia in 1768 and suppressed local resistance with over powering military force. Napoleon's father was part of the local nobility, but had little money. While bitterly resenting the French invasion, decided that it was futile to resist and accepted French. His son never forgave him for this. His father realizing that little opprtunity existed for his son decided to educated him at a French military school and using his position secured a scholarship for him.

At the time of his birth, which I was replying to, he was French!
France which had seen, at the expense of an ambiguous policy, its influence grow, in the Mediterranean in general and particularly in Genoa, found itself granted Corsica in 1768 by the Treaty of Versailles.
15th of August 1769 Napoléon Bonaparte was born.
Corsica has a very interesting and vast history.

If you feel that bad about the French send back the Statue of Liberty.
I get the feeling you are all jumping on the anti French bandwagen just because it is popular and all your friends are doing it. The Statue of Liberty means also free minds and choice being a beacon, without you having to worry what others think !
Lay off the French, my country has gone to war with them constantly, yet we still like them.

Oh, I like the French well enough, it is their leaders that are losers. I am sure the average Frenchman is nowhere near the weak willed wimp their ruler has shown himself to be.

Well looking back at the history the French had been in Corsica as far back as 1533 I think, but Corsica has change hands many a time over the centries, at the time he was consived, I believe Corsica was independent....which still doesn't make him Italian :p

Sure doesn't make him french either though, his ethnic background seems to come from a non-french area even though it may have been occupied by the french.
Also, zak, about sending back the statue of liberty?
Why on earth do that just because we hate France? Yeah it was a "gift" back when France had semi decent leadership. Man, for how they've been acting as of late though all we need to do punitively is just bankrupt them. No need to get all into a costly major project of deconstruction and shipping.
