Its no big secret. I have had my cards since Monday the 20th of June. I could not resist the temptation of pairing up these bad boys before the NDA breaks, with that being said, I am not disappointed. In fact, in some aspects, I am a little suprised. I purchased eVGA cards, and the stock clocks on these are 450MHz/1.2GHz. Here is some pictures of the box and the card:

To make a long story short, even more than last generations cards, you have to crank up the AA/AF to really see a difference.

I am now able to increase the AA/AF in my favorite games and still being completely playable. Running Battlefield 2 at 1600x1200 hummed along at a smooth 50fps, my old 6800 Ultras would do about 30 at best. Not my idea of completely playable.

Before I sold my 6800 Ultra's, I ran a few benchmarks to really see what the difference was.

I will start off with F.E.A.R, since this is what I was most impressed with. I ran this benchmark with the built in benchmark utility, and was amazed at the results. Double the performance over my 6800 Ultra's. See for yourself:

http://img161.echo.cx/img161/2523/fear6800usli6cv.th.jpg (http://img161.echo.cx/my.php?image=fear6800usli6cv.jpg) http://img161.echo.cx/img161/1840/fear7800gtxsli5qm.th.jpg (http://img161.echo.cx/my.php?image=fear7800gtxsli5qm.jpg)
http://img124.echo.cx/img124/7820/fear3qz.png

And now on to Doom3. Now, I did only gain 10FPS with the built in timedemo, its hard to say if the game is largely CPU bound because of the shadow calculations or not, but anyways, here is the benchmark, this was done at Ultra quality:

http://img299.echo.cx/img299/917/doom36800usli4ot.th.jpg (http://img299.echo.cx/my.php?image=doom36800usli4ot.jpg) http://img299.echo.cx/img299/8620/doom37800gtxsli9bo.th.jpg (http://img299.echo.cx/my.php?image=doom37800gtxsli9bo.jpg)
http://img124.echo.cx/img124/8862/doom30fb.png

And here is the result I got with 1600x1200 8xAA/16xAF:

http://img163.echo.cx/img163/7293/doom37800gtx8xaa6df.jpg

and some Doom3 16xAA/16xAF numbers:
Doom3
1600x1200 16xAA/16xAF
Normal AA
30.3 FPS

Supersampling AA
30.0 FPS

Multisampling AA
30.3

Battlefield 2 is a tough game to benchmark, since I really don't have a timedemo for it. All I can say, is that I used to play the game at 1600x1200 2x/4x. 4x/16x was too choppy for me on my Dual 6800 Ultra's. Last night I played for 2 hours at 4x/16x with an average FPS of 50FPS. My old cards would do about 30FPS. Here is a FRAPS timedemo:

Battlefield 2
1600x1200 4xAA/16xAF
Avg: 56.337 - Min: 32 - Max: 83

Can we have some idle/load temperatures please?

And does the card run quiet (that is, quieter than a 6800U/6800GT)?

Thanks for the info!

lol

yea it is empty :D

The cards are idling right now at 61 and 56 degrees.

The cards are noticably quiter than my 6800 Ultra's. The fan is much slimer...

Wow, mighty impressive. Perhaps one day, after I've paid off the credit card that I used to buy the 6800 GT, will I be able to afford another new card (or set of cards) like this.

i read somewhere in another forum where a guy who had an A64 cpu (forgot which one) overclocked to 3.6 ghz with phase change, and 7800 GTX sli watercooled overclocked to 549/1.43 (not too sure of exact numbers), got up to 15,000 something on 3dmark05. Very close to 16k. Of course not many people are gonna run their setup with extreme cooling like that.

found the link to the watercooled 7800 GTX sli (http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=66489&page=1&pp=25)
