Times up! Check out our brief preview of NVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX GPU. Primed to replace the GeForce 6800 Ultra at the high-end, the GeForce 7800 GTX GPU consumes less power, offers new image quality enhancing features, and is, of course, much faster.

And for your viewing pleasure, we have provided an image quality analysis applet so you can see the results of NVIDIA's new Transparent Adaptive Antialiasing!

Ours is one of many preview that will be published today so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

I almost forgot to mention that the GeForce 7800 GTX is available to purchase today, like right now!

Great review!
I really enjoy the IQ selector app, very nice indeed! The SS TT mode is just incredible for transparent textures, wow!!!!

However, I belive that "8XS and SS TT" picutre link is broken!

Great review, keep them comming!

The AA comparison rocks. I want one of these cards just bacause of the transparency AA. You should do some screen of the grates and other alpha in Quake3 at TTSS 8X.

Sorry to bust your bubble Mike but...

Worst pre-view of all the ones I've seen. Few info and benches, the IQ applet is actually very nice but its not enough to save it.

Anands and TR reviews are so much better, take a look at them, you can take some ideas of how to make a great review and not just something that looks more like a forum post.

Jakup is doing a good job with his forum post, maybe you should ask him to incorporate his results in your review.

for everyone else if you want a great review, go check Tech report.

lol there is always one. :)
The man recieved his card on Thursday, has a full time job and family to manage. Doing benches on SLI set to compare to a new card....u think that takes just 5 minutes?

U are seriously misguided my friend when corp websites get their gear and have 3-4 ppl working on it. sheesh. For a one man show, Mike did a good job. Ya it doesn't have flashy flash graphics, graphs blah blah. But its also a work in progress and it gives you the numbers..straight.

No offense to mike or anything, I just didn't like it and stand on my opinion.

I have nothing against Mike I just didn't like his work.

There are so much better reviews everywhere and nvnews was the first I wanted to see, but couldn't get in till just recently I'm very dissapointed by the review.

I'll take this as an unfinished review, lets hope it gets better.

Sorry to disappoint you Cota but we are a Tier 2 site we don't get our sample until a few days before launch. Tier 1 site get their sample much earlier than us. Anandtech and TR are a Tier one sites and they run their websites full time. I work a fulltime job and run the site on my off time. I have nothing against you either. :) Just letting you know the facts so you don't expect superhuman results from me. I take it you haven't ever written a review to understand the time that Anandtech and TR put into theirs. It was much more than starting to work on it last Thursday evening. ;) I enjoyed Anandtech's and TR's along with Brent's at [H]. I do read as many as I can on launch day.

FYI I used to make game reviews, but never done a hardware review, I do know the work it takes to setup benches and all. BTW I once offered you to do a game review of Flatout but never received a response.

I understand nvnews is a Tier2 site, and that you don't have enough time to make a bigger review, but there is no reason why you should do it alone, if you can't do a better job by yourself, let someone else do it, or partcipate on it. People in the forums like jakup spent their money on their g70's and are serving the community with benches and opinions. You do understand that I expect more from a site that gets to play with free hardware.

I like nvnews and been visiting since the beginning, I think that to better serve its readers it has to evolve. It can't be a "one man do it all site". Just think about it. And if there is anything I can do to help, I'll be happy to.

Is that what this is about you are mad because I didn't hire you? I have a game reviewer I'm not looking for any others or hardware reviewers. I am not sure how you figure someone else can work on the review when we get one sample. If you're unhappy with the site then leave. I'm not going to re-arrange my life to please you. Jakup is on staff here in case you haven't noticed. Your reasoning just wreaks of someone mad because I didn't hire you. I really don't give a crap what you expect. I can't please everyone and I don't even try. So move on kid you haven't a clue of what it takes to keep this site running. If you think this is the way to get hired here you are way off base.

yeah, muya, there is always one.

besides that blemish on this thread.. great review mike. doing a review on a high profile product in a short time, while being a true family man and having a career.. my hat is off to you.

well done, escpecially the AA parts.

also, only including 6800 SLI numbers with it were excellent. you had an SLI setup, so anyone loking at the 7800 that already has an SLI machine is more than likely going to stay with SLI. comparing those numbers shows what one pair can do against another.

FYI I used to make game reviews, but never done a hardware review (and some other crap)Ughhhhh. Baseless melodrama at it's worst. I always welcome positive/negative feedback that has some substance and merit but your opinions are so flawed it's not even funny. We don't always get FREE hardware here bub, you don't know what you're talking about nor do you have a clue as to how much Mike spends on this site out of his own pocket. Why do know-it-all yammering old ladies like you have to show your ass like this at times? It's just silly and makes you look even sillier. I would love to see you come up with a better preview than Mike did under the same circumstances and timeframes. Until you can do that then what you say is just noise and nothing worth standing on/by/or around. And this is not a "one man do it all" site. I find it hard to believe that you've really been "visiting since the beginning" like you claim. Whatever, just move on, turn the channel, etc.

I've only worked with the NVIDIA engineering sample. I am expecting a BFG one for review and hoping to get eVGA's and maybe MSI's and some others. If you're in the States I think any of these brands you would be pleased with. It looks like to me they are all retailing for $599.00 or just slightly higher.

Woot!

Do you think there is a chance you could confirm or deny that the BFG brand 7800 GTX has one Dual-Link DVi port. I am pritty confident it dose, but their web page dose not specificly point it out?

Cheers!

I'll email John Malley at BFG and see if he can answer. He was on plane (I believe) this morning coming from the Lan event. He might be in his office this afternoon.

Yes we are lucky to have advertisers but it doesn't pay all the expenses of the site on a yearly basis. Clay is talking about when I buy CPU's, motherboards and other hardware to keep our reviewers rigs up to date. I also pay Muya a salary because he is a faithfull newsposter. :) We don't have a best Buy banner though.
