After installing RedHat 8.0 on my Dell Inspiron 8200, all the 8.0 updates including the 2.4.18-18.8.0 kernel RPM, and the two suggested NVidia RPM's, I couldn't seem to get the display to go any higher than a 1400x1050 resolution.
The XFree log file had a message saying that the 1600x1200 mode exceeded the memory bandwidth.
On a hunch I added:
Option "NoBandWidthTest" "on"
to the device section and got 1600x1200 to work. It seems to be fine. If there is a better solution for this problem I'd like to know about it.
I also added:
DisplaySize 305 229
to the monitor section and that seemed to clear up some fuzziness.
Hope this info helps someone else avoid the several hours I spent digging around in the X configuration docs and experimenting...
