Hardware meets Software?

I'm not too savvy on the whole intel virus/ hacking prevention thing they plan on doing in their future generations of procs, but this thread is kinda about that.

What happens when software and hardware become fully integrated? what are the upsides? What are the downsides?

I was just talking to my girly about this when i thought, hey what if someone were to write a virus that not only wiped out my boot sector but also just killed that new 9700 (or GFFX) i just spent hundreds of dollars on? :(

no, i mean what happens when more people jump the boat and software integration becomes common place.

Well ... viruses can already screw with the bios, clearing it and such.

and since you can flash your GFX card .... hua! scary thoght!
