View Full Version : Memory slower after upgrade?

I just installed anothing 1GB of RAM (total is now 2GB, and yes, it's for Battlefield 2) and I noticed that after the memory test when the computer starts up it says the memory is DDR333. Before the upgrade it said DDR400. At first I thought that maybe Newegg sent me DDR333 memory but I popped out the old modules, put in the new ones and it was back up to DDR400. Anyone have any ideas?
It will do that with a Athlon 64 when all banks are filled with double sided DIMMs. The only way to get DDR400 is to buy a recent Athlon64 (Venice) or a dual core CPU, they are the only ones that can support double bank DD400 in all 4 slots.

Thanks. Battlefield 2 runs great with the new memory, but am I likely to see a performance difference in other games (i.e. games that don't need anywhere near 2GB of memory)?
Not really as Dual channel doesn't have much effect on the A64 however with them running the memory lower dual channel will then help you out. If it works great there is nothing to worry about. BF2 is the most demanding game out there so if that runs great so will every thing else.
On this note, I was thinking of dropping in another gig. I already run mine at the 333 setting which puts it at 416 with my FSB being set to 500. I was wondering how it would work. Would I have to relax my timings or would it running at '333' already fool it?
