Sigh. Right when I decide to give ATI a shot they up'n'go and die on me.

Interesting to see inquirer talk about pipelines as if 3dmark05 is actually fillrate limited.

Rumours, what rumours? The delay was said on a conference call.

Jah to me it seems like they are just taking the stuff from the conference call and the results of the 7800 and trying to spin it into somthing to talk about. Since thats what they do best at the inquirer. I mean so far this round the inq has been pretty much wrong on all exclusive accounts they have discussed thus far. Especially that one about the g70 running 'hot'. the power consumption of the card, etc etc. Just looks like mroe of the same to me.

Another load of junk from 'The National Enquirer' of the PC world. I wish I could make money off of running a website that is nothing but BS and speculations.

"The story then, from reliable souses - it was at a bar - is that ATI is pretty much done with the chip, but yields on the current silicon, A1 stepping, are pretty crappy. There was a new bun in the oven, this one called A13 that was slated for the waning days of July, with a few improvements likely in addition to the raised yields."

Wow, they're not trying to positive spin on the respin, are they? Heh. And it is NVIDIA, not Invidia. "Journalism" at its finest. Heh.

And proof that the inq is full of it... http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20050627061636.html

huh ? I dont see any major conflicts between that report and the inquirers.

R520 A1 silicon was bad chip but now it in A13, do that mean ATI revised it 13 TIMES?

It does seem like a large number jump there.
I would have thought it would have been A2 not A13.

Man if that's the case they must have had a LOT of bugs.

would have been A2 not A13 a0 to a1 would be one major respin ... 0-3 would be minor respins ... that the way i look at it....could be wrong.... i do know that repins take something like a month or so ....so 14 respins would be out of the question ....

Maybe it's A1.3?

TheInquirer strikes again (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=24235)

Ati planned to paper launch R520 in June with availability a 2-3 months later but when they saw indications of 7800GTX immediate availability they folded and decided to do the same.Makes sence.

According to dave baumman's theory this delay is very good for nvidia. He says G70 has 32pp and because yields are very low, they're storing the good cores while the defective ones have quads disabled and go to the 7800GTX, this way they'll have enough good cores in a few months and lauch the 7800U then.
With these delays R520 lauch will get closer to 7800U one.

Rivatuner says no disabled quads on 7800GTX.

If the quad or pipelines were cut with a laser then riva tuner won't pick those up.

Only way to tell for sure it doesn't have 32 pipes is xraying the chip

So what do I do?Buy the 7800GTX now or wait for a possible 7800U and R520?

wait, wait for R520 and when it comes out wait for refresh. After that you can always wait for the next gen and it's refresh. Waiting is what makes computers so interesting :D

They act as if 3dmark05 is the holy grail of benchmarks. IMO the 3dmark series lost its creditability with 3dmark03. It really wont matter if the R520 can outbench the 7800GTX if there isn't a good supply available around the time of launch. Computer enthusiasts tend to be very impatient people. :D

The inquirer also needs to check its grammar and spelling before posting something. Invidia.

I don't even think that the R520 will outperform the G70. Why? If it would, we would have known it on the day the G70 was presented. There would have been leaks that show the great performance of the R520. Think of the presentation of the NV40: On the same day, everbody knew how fast the R420 was.
Something's not right with ATi this time. Hopefully not their NV30...

If 3dmark wasnt so unrealistically vertex/cpu bound it might actually be a good bench.. You can figure its behavior too easily nowadays however.

Right, my overclocked X800XT scored nearly 1000 points more than my current card yet the difference between the two cards in every game I own is next to nothing. Also both ATI and nVidia have optimized the hell out of their drivers for it (The Cat 5.6 gave 100 more points in 3dmark05, but did nothing for games  ).
