first of all i added a 1394 firewire card to my system for video capturing. my question; when i click on "my networked places"(in winxp from my desktop)....then click on "view network connection's" i always had a "local area connection" icon there, because i have 2 pc's connected to my linksys router, but after installing 1394 card, now there is a 1394 connection icon there also. is this normal? and can i disable it while im NOT capturing or gonna capture/edit any video stuff? the other pc doesnt capture or edit at all.i only use my dem 8200 for video editing stuff.

Dont worry about it, you can network with 1394 if you are so inclined, but youve got ethernet so dont worry about it

i do not want to network the 1394...my question was " is it ok to DISABLE" the 1394 connection if im not gonna be doing any video capturing ..say i want to go gaming and have no intention of doing video work that night..is it ok to disable the 1394 connection if im not gonna be using it? why leave it running?? will it be re-enabled when i reboot ? or do i manually have to re enable it after a reboot? basically i just want to know if it is safe to disable it if im not gonna use it on a certain day of the week or whenever.

If its not bothering you, then dont disable it. I dont know for sure what will happen, because i dont have a firewire card, but I dont think anything at all would be affected by you disabling it.

if you leave it enabled, and its not in use for the game, it won't hog any system resources

Dont worry about this 1394 network thing. 1394 cards can be easily used to build a small network, that's why Windows pops up a message saying you have a "1394 network card" installed. It can use the same protocols as NIC thus it is recognized as a "network card". It can be use for other things of course. Don't worry about it, use your Ethernet and disable the 1394 connection on your network :) (it will only disable the network capability, so you can use it for whatever else)

P.S That's what happened to me when I put in my Gainward Firewire card. When reinstalling windows, it asked me if I want to use the firewire card or my NIC card. I chose Ethernet of course :)

just leave it on, even if you'll never use it. nothing comes of turning it off.
