the Grand Prix of France, home base of tire supplier Michelin. hmm, do you think they'll be able to provide a tire that actually works for this race? the fallout from the US GP continues, as the seven teams were found quilty of refusing to start that race and having unsuitable equipment, but the penalty phase has been deferred until September, when the teams will likely have to cough up some $$, but there will be the obligatory appeal. however, at least Michelin has offered to refund the tickets, and may purchase 20,000 tickets to give to fans. wonder if that will appease the masses: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=129148 and: http://www.formula1.com/race/news/3237/740.html and: http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=129079
race preview: yes, there is actually a race, tires permitting of course. methinks it won't be as easy for Ferrari and Schumie as it was in the US, since they'll likely have competition this weekend. Alonso is still well ahead of Kimi in 2nd (by 22 points), and both are fast and should have fresh engines (since they didn't race) whilst Ferrari and the other Bridgestone teams will have used engines. but, Ferrari may have some momentum, since the US GP was more of a testing session than an actual race, so they may have gotten some data that will allow them to make improvements to the car, etc.
Toyota was fast at Indy, and they may be the team to beat this weekend, but BAR's Button was also good at qualy in the US. can they continue to find the performance needed to win? R. Schumacher will return for the French GP, after smashing into the wall at Indy. Williams is in an odd state, since they may their BMW engines at the end of the season, so a good weekend for them may be helpful in retaining some form of partnership with BMW. and the Saubers--Massa and JV are under pressure now, as they are auditioning for BMW, who bought the team and will take it over starting next year: http://www.itv-f1.com/Feature.aspx?Type=General&PO_ID=33259

hmm, methinks the Red Bull team really doesn't like France, since their product has been banned there, so they have n axe to grind. some funny comments include:
"The social scene at this event is about the dullest of the year. It is a great place if you like to look at cows and of course, being French cows, they are very chic, with lovely long eyelashes and a tan skin colour." http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?id=129046
