View Full Version : What do ATI owners do about refresh rates?

I am currently a Nvidia card user so am well aware of the refresh rate issues with Windows XP/2000.

I mod the driver inf myself to bypass the refresh rate problem of defaulting to 60 hz.

I would assume ATI cards also have this situation.

What do you guys do to address this?

There's a built in fix in the 2.4 and 2.5 CAT's for D3D ..In "Monitor Properites" section that there's an option for "DirectX Override Refresh rate", which gives you the option for "Same as desktop", "disabled", or a specific refresh rate. Still needs the option for PGL, though

RefreshForce

It works on all cards and monitors and doesn't need any stuff running. (It also has a nice feature where it tries to determine the maximum Hz supported by the videocard/monitor and then suggests those)

Nothing. It's automatic. :p
Enable DCC if you have not already done so but it should be on by default.
Just pick you refresh rate from here:

What's that going to do? Games are still going to default back to 60 hz in Windows XP or 2000 regardless of what you set the refresh rate at in the control panel just like it does with Nvidia or any other card.

I used Refreshlock for my Geforce 3, now I use Refreshlock for the 9700. Works perfectly with both cards on all driver sets that I've used.

no, ati has inbuilt in the drivers an utility to work that out.

well if all your games are using Direct3D that is
most my games use Open GL so instead of messing with ATis util and another I just use RefreshLocker

works everytime and is flawless compared to RefreshLock which has some problems with certain games

whatever you do, dont ever use a refresh rate higher than 60 in BF1942, or the game will not load

BF1942 destroyed my monitor

at first I launche dthe game and it worked properly, then I forced 85 hZ and when launching the game it started reinitiliazing the display over and over again and then it shut itself off never to work again

got a new one on the warranty though with no questions asked, took then four months to sed it though
