View Full Version : What is "Intel VIIV"?
Pass the joint on when you're finished, I want some of what you're smoking :smoking2: Intel will not be making a custom processor for Apple. I don't know why it's so hard for people to accept.
I didn't know. Since Apple doesn't really concern me, I don't pay attention to the news surrounding it.

Obviously, its goin to be a x86 proc after all. why would they redesign or design sumthing special/different for apple?
i thought dual-core 64 bit logo, in my earlier post. but the space is very narrow for it, cant be apple too.
must be a different product, not for desktops.

Yeah I think that Apple are too image-conscious to have other peoples logos slapped all over their boxes, it would spoil their minimalist styling, but that's just my prejudice :). I think it could be a Pentium logo, or similar, myself. "Pentium 5 with HT64OMFG!!(TM)(R)(C)(LOL)" technology, that sort of thing.

Intel seem to have latched on to the "platform" marketing game recently from the reports I've read, building on the success of Centrino, maybe it's related to that.
could be a hoax, but who cares.
Intel had sucessfully delayed the 64-bit era for quite sometime. That is untill AMD got MS to back them up. Intel then just slaped on EM64T for compatibility with x64, not to compete with AMD interms of performance.
It would be in Intel's best intrest is for Windows to stay 32-bit for as long as posible. Since AMD processors will be the processor of choice for x64. Despite a lot of PC enthusiasts jumping on the AMD bandwagon, 80% of total PC processor market belongs to Intel. Face it, the majority of people who use computers don't even need x64, or to ignorant to know what it is, nor able to utilize the full power of a 500Mhz PC much less a 3Ghz PC.
Intel's mainstream marketing strategy thrives on ignorant consumers. Its the smaller companies like AMD that actualy caters to the progression of innovation for the mainstream user, despite the fact that most people are basicaly too dumb to utilize it.

A lot of downloadable mainstream and porn movies are DRM protected now. I'd say DRM protection is a success so far since I haven't seen a hacking scheme implemented yet.

Hopefully an uber video card to compete with nV and ATI :D :D :D
I dunno, they seem to be doing everything wrong with CPU's, maybe they should give graphics cards a try ;)
I don't see how Intel is doing everything wrong with CPUs. Their stuff is quite fast and reliable. If I were to upgrade tomorrow, it'd certainly be to an Intel based machine, simply because I know it will work right away, be fast and will not BSOD on me. (I remember the nightmare I had with my Athlon XP 2200...*shiver*).

They're doing everything right in mobile space, Pentium M is an awesome chip. If their next-gen Pentium-M-alike desktop chips live up to their heritage they'll be awesome too, especially for those of us who are into silent computing.

Do people still believe this? LOL. This hasn't been true (in the broad sense) since K6, and was mostly down to the chipsets and motherboards. Now that AMD is a serious contender, and guys like NVIDIA are making kick-arse chipsets, it's not true any more.
Were your experiences with a self-build system? Hehe. The worst stability issues I had was with an Intel-based system, my AMD-based systems have always been rock solid. They were all self-builds though, you have to accept that almost no-one who does a self-build *really* knows what they're doing (we all like to think we do, and I dare say that lots of people will disagree with me ... which will prove my point).

WTH are you talking about? I know what I'm doing and have known for a very long time!
Ditto. Every self-built pc I've done has booted perfectly 1st time I hit the power switch. Its ppl who rush that make mistakes.
Yea, people who think Intel is somehow much more stable than AMD, obviously have not tried AMD64. I used to be an Intel fanboy, wow how that changed. Same goes for ATI vs. nVidia. I have owned both and had 0 issues with either.
I'm no longer a fanboy of any company, I buy whats good. Right now, Intel is getting their ass kicked my AMD hardcore in the performance arena. I may change my opinion when the Pentium M hits the market.
Many people think that AthlonXP's were inferior because they were more fragile, with the exposed core many of them were not installed correctly, or cracked.
yea i like to think i know what im doing as well. my machines boot up first time i hit the switch, and if they dont, its because the power cord isnt plugged in.
i too have used ATI and nVidia and loved both (however, have not yet tried the ATI x-series yet). i have never used intel (in build your own at least, my pentium M is kickass) because i was always too poor to get one, heh. now that AMD is at the forefront, its nice to say "oh yea, i always went with AMD..."
anyways, im expecting the cpu race to be much like the gpu race. one company will dominate, then the other will, and it will keep going back and forth. the only reason ppl are making such a big deal out of AMD right now is because its the first time that Intel wasnt at the top.
