Well I decided to put Wow down for a while and try the new adventure packs in EQ 2. The WoW end game just isnt exciting me at all. Be nice to see more of what EQ 2 has to offer for now. I have 100% vitaility on my 32 defiler so I should get a nice little boost from that.

Atleast you have a rig that can run the damn game now (I would hope anyway :) ). That game is coded horribly for how it looks (SOE at work as usual) My rig runs the game like total ass and I don't consider it to be a crap rig. Not top of the line but not crap. But I admit I have not played it since Nov so maybe they made MAJOR performance improvements to it. I have stopped WOW for now because of the same reasons. I have gone back to EQ 1 though :)

Let us know how EQ2 fares these days. I admit that raiding MC/Onyxia has lost its charm. I've almost been tempted to re-install EQ2 as well.

Well. EQ 2 still runs like a dog lognoronon. I never had the stutter problem but it never ran great to begin with. My average framerates are up and I can now play the game @ 1600x1200 with 4xAA/16xAF. My minimum framerates are still just as bad as my 6800GT SLI setup. ANd Cities still chug for me. I'm gonna have to upgrade my memory to see a sizable improvement to texture thrashing.

Other than that I am fairly impressed. Game has been improving by leaps and bounds really. From a PVE perspective. Splitpaw Saga is a lot of fun and makes me glad I do station access.

Maybe I'll just get the all access thing and reinstall EQ 2 just to mess with it a little bit and I can still have EQ 1 going as my main game. Is it still a meager 4 character limit? (that pissed me off royaly).

With station access its a 10 charactor limit. Without station access its a 6 charactor limit.

wait for the WoW xp before you come back i guess.

have you raided MC and Onxyia? You are going to miss blackwing lair coming in a few weeks as well.

Oh well one less alliance.

I have beaten MC and Onyxia many many times. The game is still getting boring. EQ 1 is great cause of all the content plus 1 major thing that puts it above everything else. AA's WOW needs some sort of micro advancement for the people just idling at 60 doing the same instance for the 100th time with nothing to gain from it. I am not familiar with the high end game of EQ 2 since I stopped playing in Nov when WOW came out.

Wow lost it's luster really fast after lvl 60, even with battlefield. You can only play the few high end instances so many times(me being twice and bored silly after that). And again, my biggest complaint about wow is the community.

I'm also back to eq2. Really a better game imo. I just like the atmosphere, music and art better I guess. Draws me in to my charater more. Also, I think they really have polished up the game a lot since the last time i played a few months ago. Seems to run a bit better and it just seems more user friendly overall for some odd reason. I'll play month to month for now.

BTW, i seem to be running decent with 6xaa/16xaf, 1280x1064, textures at max and the rests at high. Sliders very from option to option though and are really still just set to that old guide that was going around at the beginnig of launch.

I only tried WOW druing beta. EQ2 has had me since I got into that beta. If you guys are ever on Kithicore server, I have a 49 zerker and 24 pally if ya ever need help.
Splitpaw is a blast I must say. I didnt care as much for the vampire one that came before. I got to mess around with the expansion a bit at E3 and that looks great as well. They keep adding high end content like crazy. I have wanted to try wow for a bit, but then SOE turns around and adds more high end stuff...lol...

since EQ2 slowdowns are cpu limited i think that a no-sli setup with 7800gtx will run it better than a sli one.

Well splitpaw Saga right now is more than enough to keep me interested in the game right now. The other content hasnt massively changed but it just gives me another place I can go for experience. Since it has a "Dungeon Crawl" experience it can be alot of fun. So far I have found 3 instances that are doable solo. And of course the arena.

Overall I am enjoying myself right now. I always forget how much more deep combat is in EQ 2 compared to WoW. So its definately a much more fun game to group in. But thats from a healer perspective. Being a healer in WoW isnt very fun at all. ((Priest/Druid here! :P)) Other than that I'm gonna give EQ 2 another chance and splitpaw saga will at least keep me interested for a while.

It depends in battle with particle effects the SLI setup does better. In Cities the SLI setup does about the same. And of course outdoor zones run better @ 4xAA/16xAF @ 1600x1200. like from average 35 FPS to average 65 FPS. But in cities where CPU/Memory is your limitation the performance isnt improved at all.

I just bought EQ2 last weekend and was quite dissapointed with the performance on my SLI system. I have no AA and the in-game quality level at very high I think (a step or two down from the top).

Any tips for better performance and good quality?

Thats the problem with the end game in WoW . . they hafta balance it with the people who play the game merely as a casual hobby to people who lvl a 60 in mere weeks(btw I hate all of you who do that). I for one am looking forward to the end game for WoW(almost 54 myself on my lock) and by the time I hit 60 BWL will be out and maybe even the exp. I also will look forward to PvPin more since lately I've been focusing on leveling. Maybe I'm finding it more interesting since I'm playing a somewhat more complicated class(it is imo). But thats cool that you've found something you enjoy. I don't wanna pick up any other mmo because WoW is taking too much of my time as it is, so thats why I won't be playing EQ2.

At what resolution? 1600x1200 with a tweaked High Quality worked out for me.((I ran 1280x960 with 4xAA/8xAF on my 6800GT SLI) Some effects such as cubemap reflections at full kill performance on my system too. Just cant expect too much out of your machine.. Even SLI machines..

lower particle count/distance. Spec on rain, textures. Player torch/light count. just tweak the settings till you get the best visuals for performance

delete it and install a better game, not hard to find one, any MMO released in the past 6 years or so should do just fine :)

2+ gigs of memory for eq2, 1 gig with high graphics and AA etc can't hang, that's your biggest bottleneck.

I reactivated my account, I've got a 43 almost 44 warden on Crushbone. I went on a raid to kill the Angler in Cove of Decay yesterday, we lost :(

But it was kickass :D

Splitpaw is an ownage expansion for anyone 40-49

I just re-activated after a 3 month hiatus. I started fresh on a new server and I’m noticing all kinds of stuff they have tweaked and added in, nice!

But the game still runs horribly for me. I was hoping with all this time I've taken off they might have optimized it some. The 1st time around I had a 754 nF3 board with a 6800gt, and now have a 939 nF4 with a 6800gt.

Even when I run fraps and I’m seeing framerates at 50+ it still doesn’t feel smooth so I guess I’m a stutter victim, was hoping that would go away at least with the new setup. If I was 100% convinced it would go away with a 7800gtx I’d get one. But not gonna take that gamble for $600 when all my other games like GTR, rFactor, BF2, Tiger Woods, Madden, WoW, Guild Wars run silky smooth.

Running 1680x1050 on balanced, cutting down to high-performance helps the framerate but not the lack of smoothness. Oh well, I’ll play out my month and see how it goes.
