I was browsed Overclockers UK website and scrolling down the page and I eye catched XFX Geforce 7800 GTX Extreme Edition (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7800_Series.html) card, it cost almost the same price at 469.94 as BFG at 458.19 for 460MHz, it come with core clock speed of 490MHz+ and 1300MHz memory.

I guess lots of people will be pissed off with their XFX normal GTX purchases when they found a faster Extreme Edition card in stock for a few tenners more.

Personally, before the 6800 was released I had absolute faith in XFX. My old 4200 had a custom HSF and could be overclocked to 300/580 from 250/445. But after hearing that their 6800 Ultra wouldn't work at advertised memory speeds of 1200, I'm somewhat sceptical of their QA. I personally avoid XFX and recommend to my mates to go for other, slower cards for the sake of stability. Also, at this moment, I wouldn't exchange my BFG for that card, even if it's faster.

I don't really care about any extreme editions. I'll just OC my leadtek anyway.

Yes I know about XFX Geforce 6800 Ultra problems, but this time it different with 7800 GTX, all manufactuers used the same cards with Nvidia reference coolers and have their own badge sticked on the coolers.

Nah it will be much better to obtain Extreme Edition BIOS and flash it so you wont have to OC your Leadtek card. :D

But still, they are offering oc/ed cards out of the box but I don't trust they will work as advertised due to not so decent QA.

how is that different than with the geforce 6800 ultra?

Many manufactuers used their custom coolers for it and XFX used their custom screws to secured the cooler on the card but many cards had poor fittings because XFX used springs that not followed Nvidia's reference design.

I heard that XFX and BFG work closest with nVIdia... thats why they have good yields on the chips that hit such high clockspeeds.

That would probably explain why the XFX 6800U I demoed wouldn't run stable at its stock clock speeds.

I have an XFX 6800 Ultra in an extra machine of mine, it works fine at its default clocks of 425/1100. It even ran fine in BF2 at 450/1100 on the stock cooler (I know, not a huge overclock, but still).

I have an XFX 6800GT and it is awsome. I've OC'd it to 400 MHZ and it works fine. Can't get it any higher than that due to overheating. I imagine though if I slap a watercooler on it I could get it even higher than that.

What about PNY? I thought they had been working with Nvidia the longest and closest.

Also, when I think of XFX, the 6600GT fiasco comes to mind.

My gigabyte does 498/1395 without any problems (3dmark05 2 hour loop) standard cooling. Just get the standard card and overclock. That is all they are doing everything else is the same.

with 7800 GTX, all manufactuers used the same cards with Nvidia reference coolers and have their own badge sticked on the coolers. So have we returned to the 5800 time zone with NVIDIA making all PCBs for the 7800?

After having 4 faulty cards, with rotten warranty and support, ill stay away from those three letters that say X F X. and its founder or watever it is named P I N E.

and ya, earlier, before the gf6 series launch, it used to be PNY, ASUS, MSI that were closer to NV. since gf6 series, XFX, BFG and Leadtek are close to nv.

Would have to disagree with you mate... Ive had nothing but good experience with XFX
2 x 6800 Ultra's
2 x 7800GTX.

all XFX, all great.

Can't complain about my two XFX 6800gt too much either. With the exception of poor cooling on the cards.
I replaced the coolers with Zalmans and they've(6800 gts) performed great for about 6 months now.

I dunno about that. The early 6800's were the same. Later in their life non reference models started appearing.

Yea the early cards always have the same design. Each company is just rushing to get it on the shelves. The different coolers don't come until later.

... i would love to get my hands on a XFX Extreme bios... :D

I know i could make my own "extreme bios" with Nibitor 2.2a (which i`m using atm!) but i really prefere the "original" ones!?

Call me "old fashioned" but i really like the "unmodded" bios versions more!

So if anybody gets the XFX Extreme Bios please post it, ok?

Thanks alot guys!

Sven

Here`s my "Extreme Bios" if anyone wants to flash:
IT`s based on Leadteks 7800 bios (newest) and clocked 490/1300 in 2d/3d with 1.4V in 2D and 3D. Works great on my XFX 7800

Have fun
