Though the advanced tank cannons and near-future machine guns of Battlefield 2 have hardly begun to cool, we may have found our first clue that an expansion to the sequel is already imminent.

South African online retailer Take 2 (no relation), based in South Africa, lists a "Battlefield 2: Expansion Pack" scheduled for release November 8.

Unfortunately, publisher Electronic Arts would not confirm the information when IGN asked for comment. While such hints from retailers often turn out to be substantial, we'll leave this in the Rumor Bin for now -- though we also expect to be hearing more on the (admittedly inevitable) expansion soon. Stay tuned.

That's stupid. So they should only start working on the expansion in the instant (perhaps after 3-4 patches?) every single bug in BF2 is worked out?

No, start the development of the exp. pack and work on patches too in parrallel.. Anyway they already have announced the next patch fixes and while some and while some of the current bugs can be annoying we have to remind ourselfs that they're working on it and that no game is perfect :)

OPDATE OPDATE: Actually it seems that the news must have been from yesterday, cause boomtown is reporting that the BF2 patch is due to release today :afro:

And make both of them take twice as long to get done?

Actually most developers use a totaly seperate company for expansion packs. DICE might be different (though they did fire the whole dev team for bf2 already).
Even if its the same developement team, the guys that develope content like levels, models and textures dont need to be sitting around with their thumbs up their asses while the other guys fix bugs.

Yes I agree with you guys they need to fix the game before they go expanding it.

There are most likely two teams, Bug Fixing never requires a full or even half a team, its usually around 2-5 poeple since all they do is go through the existing code and look for flaws/issues.

This is also why it sometimes takes so long for a "good" patch to come along, there aren't many working on it...
