my x800XL is very noisy when the fan spins up, how does the gtx compare noise wise?

It's very quiet in my setup. Can't even tell it's there.

Yeah, same here. Even using SLI I can't hear the 7800s at all. In fact, I had to put my finger on the fan just to make sure it was even spinning.

So 7800 is quieter than 6800?

Much quieter. It's not exaggerating to say you can't hear it all (even with the case open). Also, the noise level of a single 6800U didn't bother me but I was worried about using two for SLI. So, I was kind of worried about the 7800s in that regard as well. So, it was a very pleasant surprise.

Edit: After seeing GlowSticks post, I should note that I'm talking about once windows loads. At bootup, you do hear them spin up.

Right at power on, they can get loud, and i mean loud! But after that, they are pritty much silent.

When a 7800GTX first boots up. It takes 3 seconds for the fan to spin up. Then it spins up at massive RPM. Once it reaches driver load on the windows screen ((IE when the keyboard flashes) they turn down to near silent operation. And I have never seen them get louder. Apparently after a certain heat threshold they spin up a bit faster. Highest I have seen my load is 80C in EQ 2 and havent detected any RPM increases at those tempatures.
