Wont work for me... must be getting hammered by all the people who want to upgrade :p

Looks like it'll be faster than a 6800 Ultra by a good majority. 335 Mhz @ 24 pipes is like 8,000 fillrate. Which is a pretty good boost over the 6800 Ultra.

Looks like we know the clock speeds :)

Another smart move by NV. The 7800GT should be much more attractive at $400-500 than 6800 Ultras or X850XT's primarily due to better overall performance, more features, arguably better image quality, more potential for performance gains via overclocking, low power single slot design that can be SLI'd to boost performance in the future.

I have no need to upgrade my card .... but hats off to nvidia on what looks like another great series in a row :) For once they took the best of thier previous series and honestly added and inproved on it. :p Just like the 6800's at first .. it will probably have its driver bugs... but it will surely iron out to another great set!

To be honest the bugs with my 7800GTX have been fairly minor. But in retrospect. I managed to tunnel the tide through early SLI, Early 6800, NV3x optimised driver issues (Early Far Cry) so any small bugs would seem like nuisances in comparison. This is of course an advantage of not having to totally redo the 6800 architecture.

Yes I'm very impressed. The drivers are extremely solid. I had loads of driver problems when I first got my 6800 Ultra, then again with my Dual 6800's SLI. My 7800GTX's have been problem free for the most part.

Will the gt be sli enabled though? Im sure I read somwhere that the gtx is the only one that will be.

It will surely be SLI enabled.

I got a questoin about the core clock. When they did these benches and listed the core clocks, did they take into account the ~40 mhz jump that goes along with it?

You only see the jump when the bench is running. the clock you set are what the piplines run at. The +40 is another part of the chip as far as I can gather. So No I dont think these include the +40, the 7800gtx benches didnt after all.

Well I don't see how they got: G70 525 MHz GPU 685 MHz with the card on just air. Mine struggles to go above 510 mhz core on water without getting some form of artifacting unless I got a bad sample or they got an exceptional one.

review sample...exceptional sample may be the case here

They may have had some artifacts. But then mine can do 697.5 (1395) on the memory without any problems, and the core does 498 without artifacts. Infact that is what the auto overclock sets.

I havnt gone any higher bcs of the bios in mine (02.11) If I turn the clock test off the card reverts to 450 when overclocked. I could probably get alot higher. Its nothig to do with a bad sample, some cards can just overclock more, better apllication of thermal past, a cleaner current from the powersupply, lots of things effect it.

edit: or a hand picked review sample :D

It looks like the power management features they built into this chip are starting to pay off in the form of generally good overclocking. Actually, you could see some signs of this with the 6600GT, which overclocked very well even with relatively high standard core clocks.

In the Far Cry benchmark this is linked to the 7800GT is only beating the 6800GT overclocked by 5 fps. That isn't much of an increase unless I am reading things wrong.

Notice that the 6800GT overclocked is clocked at 435/585. The actual GT is 13FPS behind and the Ultra is 8FPS behind, which is pretty good.
