Is it just me who feels increasingly screwed every day?

He said he would fix social security... he's done nothing

He said he will fix immigration... he's done nothing

He said he was against gay marriage... he's done nothing

He said he would fix health care costs... he's done nothing

He promised a bunch of stuff just to get re-elected, but it doesn't look like he will actually do any of it. Things would have been worse if Kerry had won, but things aren't looking much better under Bush.

Isn't that just politics?

It was him or Kerry.

/shrug

He's a politician and politicians say all kinds of stuff to get elected. He can say he will do something w/o doing anything and get away with it like others. Look back to Clinton, Bush sr., Reagan, Carter and those before them.

The only difference with Kerry would have been we did not know what he would or would not have done. Unfortunately Kerry never explained much by way of his own policies.

It's like that one South Park ep, where after PITA tossed some blood on them, they had to change the school mascott. So Stan was wondering why he should have to chose between a dousche bag and a turd sandwitch...

Through all the mud slinging in the midst of it all, and one gets a gist of what we all had to deal with. That's why many of us voted for the candidates we did. How much choice did we really have?

Is this the first time you've ever listened to what a politician has said?

It would help if the liberal douchebags in the Senate didn't filibuster just about everything. The President can't "fix social security" by himself. He can't call up all the health insurers and say "lower your prices now". Duh?

Yeah, it's pretty good evidence that was spliced and tampered with in order to appear in the form it is. Good work, Moore!

Its pretty much all about who can spend the most money and can sound the most impressive, no one cares how questionable they are. The average citizen doesnt really pay much attention, at least it seems that way to me.

A. They haven't actually filibustered, it's the threat of one that has everyone on edge. If a filibuster had occurred, the Republicans would have already moved to change senate rules to prevent one from occurring. I'm really suprised that the Republican majority hasn't pushed things to that point, seeing as how they claim to have the votes to change senate rules.

B. Bush's social security reform process is failing because the American people don't support his idea. Polls consistently show extremely low levels of support for his plan. If you are representing a group of people on both sides of the political spectrum who mostly oppose the social security plan, it is not a wise career move to vote for it. Social security needs fixing, that is undeniable, but Bush is going to have to change his ideas on what he considers reform.

People don't support it because they don't understand it. It is a brilliant plan that will yield much better payout much earlier.

Additionally, you don't HAVE to use the personal accounts. It's a win/win solution. Democrats don't like the idea because then there is one less fund they can steal from to pay for illegal aliens and viagra for sex offenders.

People don't understand politics for the most part either, yet they (we) still get to choose all of our political leaders each election. Hell half the people in the US still couldn't tell you the difference between Kerry and Bush on most issues. Most of us here are in the minority when it comes to how informed we are or how much we care about various issues.

That being said, however, an apathetic person's vote counts just as much as mine, and for a representative or senator that is what matters most.

This is very true. We all may disagree on the issue but most of us know them very well. Most of the general public don't know squat. Most don't know what state and federal voting district they live in.

If i was american I would have voted Bush snr back in and not Clinton, but I would not have voted for Bush jnr. Mind you, he does get the full 2 terms now so he can be judged fully when his time is fully up and nobody can say he didn't have time to do what he wanted.

From my viewpoint he is not doing anything badly, neither is he doing anything well. Things are just ticking over it seems to me.

Andy

This is the problem. The President has TRIED to do all those things, but Congress has not allowed them to happen. You constantly hear the President trying to privatize part of Social Security (which worked wonderfully in Chile), but the Dems will not allow it...they prefer to keep a failed system instead.

Basically, it comes down to the Dems hating ANYTHING the President proposes, and actively working against him...even if his proposal is sound and supported by Alan Greenspan (who knows more about the economy than all of Congress combined).

Personally, I want Congress restaffed...and we need to do something about this Tyranny of the Minority (filibuster).
