View Full Version : Xbox360 and PS3 "Parties" This Month...

Final details have at last surfaced on this year's edition of Sony's big Japanese PlayStation strategy briefing, the PlayStation Meeting. Sony has decided to hold the event on 7/21, four days before Microsoft's Xbox Summit and nine days before the start of the Square Enix party. Whew... it's going to be a busy July if you're in Japan!

The PlayStation Meeting is an annual tradition for Sony. Every year, the company presents awards for top selling games from the previous year and makes a few big announcements. Previous PlayStation Meetings have served as the debut point for games such as Katamari Damacy and Sengoku Musou. Last year's conference saw Ken Kutaragi unveil his now famous chart depicting the unveiling schedule for the PlayStation 3 (still referred to as "Next System" at the time). The company also unveiled Talkman for the PSP and let the Japanese press get a look at the system for the first time.

Sony has yet to announce what it will show at this year's conference, but the PlayStation 3 will likely make an appearance in some form. The question is, will we get our hands on it? Last year, Sony left the big playable PSP titles like Ridge Racers, Hot Shots Golf and Metal Gear Acid for an early September press conference.

As with the Xbox Summit, the PlayStation Meeting is open to professionals journalists and industry types only. So how are we going to get in? If we can figure out a way to sneak in, we'll be sure and give you a full report.

X360: 7/25
By now, we're sure Xbox 360 fans have heard some buzz about a big Summer event where Microsoft Japan will spill the miso about its plans for the 360 in the Japanese market. Today, we received final details on the event.

Mark your calendars for July 25. Starting at 1:30 PM on that day, Microsoft Japan will hold the Xbox Summit 2005 in Tokyo. Over the course of one and a half hours, the company promises to unveil the new Xbox 360 Japanese lineup and share final details on the system's Asian launch.

This is the very event that Microsoft Japan chief Xboxer Yoshihiro Maruyama promised would be a "product unveiling on the scale of E3." This is the very event that got IGN so excited that it moved its Japanese office to the Maruyama region of Tokyo's Shibuya ward (seriously... we're right between Hotel Best 1 and Hotel Aine Resort... drop by if you're in the area!).

Microsoft has hinted that we'll get to see new Japanese titles, aside from the Mistwalker games that debuted prior to E3. IGN has even heard rumors that there will be a few big surprises. Want more? You'll have to wait until 7/25.

The Xbox Summit is an invite only event, so if you didn't get an invitation hand delivered by a hot Xbox girl who later verified the presence, legitimacy and size of your current generation Xbox, you can't go. We, of course, got our invites (via an e-mail... which was probably typed by a hot Xbox girl) and will be bringing you the full word right here at IGN. Stay tuned!

I cant wait for the XBox360 Japanese conference, word is that Ridge Racer 6 will be unveiled and revealed as a launch title as well as some other big Sega titles. RR6 is day one purchase for me if true being that they say it has gone back to its arcade roots.
