If it's true, that's freakin' hot, I'd hit that :D... kinda sucks though for us nerds that dumped $600 into a GTX less than a week ago.

Not so secret weapon now, I suppose.
More conjecture based on logical assumptions, if you ask me.
The thing is, all VR-Zone is actually "saying" is that the G71 is a 90nm part. It very well could be the 7600, much like the 6800 130nm to 6600 110nm. Nothing about pipes, etc. and the smaller process on a less complicated budget part would be the stepping stone to hte next high performance part.
Thoughts?
Just hope this happens within 90 days so I can step up =]

If they pulled a 32pipe/higher clock chip out to spoil the R520 you can basically say game over for ATI.

i am leaning toward believe this only because there has never been such a golden opportunity for a company to lay in the weeds till the right moment and then pounce. ATI has been having some trouble with the chips it is designing, which is simply a risk of moving to 90nm, and Nvidia has either done one of 2 things...
a. has this uber-part lying in wait. gotta remember that nvidia did a great job keeping the 7800 secret, and with all the hype of the 7800, they knew that attention would be even less on anything they have secret. besides, this industry is all about one comapny releasing something and it's compititor countering it within a few days. nvidia just got lucky in this round cause ati is slow to get things out the door.
b. it quite possibly could be a midrange type card. thats a good idea since the 6600's are on a smaller process. this would work out casue nvidia now has a chance to cpature not only the high end, but the midrange of the market; while ati is still trying to get something out to the high end.
but one thing about that is odd. the G71 name follows the way that the nv40 supplimented with the nv41. my point here is that the nv4x's are in the high end segment. maybe the g71 is the answer to the ati card at the high end.

Not really. If the story about the G71 is true (and I am rather optimistic about it), that card will nevertheless not the see daylight until January-February the earliest. This will give 7800GTX owners at least 6-7 months their nvidia high-end fix :)

So that leads to this thought. The 7800GTX could have been the 7600 series? Now that would be a good sign for your high end GPU. Heh.

Nooooooooooooooo!!! No! No! Impossible! That can't be true!

if this is true then ill still be happy with my 7800 gtx as the higher model will undoubtably cost even more money, expecially if its 32pipes

According to this, the G71 is the next midrange card Nvidia will offer.

Where on earth did you get hold of that?!??
Edit: That's actually quite interesting. Looking at the 6 series, I'd say:
Ultra High-End: 6800 Ultra
High-End (Enthusiast): 6800 GT
Mid-Range (Performance): 6600 GT
Low-End (Value): 6200
... with a bunch of intermediate cards falling between these ranks, of course (6600, 6800nu etc.) Now, translating that to the 7 series, and assuming that the slide above is accurate, we get:
Ultra High-End: 7800 Ultra
High-End (Enthusiast): 7800 GTX
<7800GT>
Mid-Range (Performance): G71 (7600GT?)
Low-End (Value): G72 (7200?)
Things are a little weird. Where does the 7800GT get positioned? Looks like it's in No-Man's Land. Either that, or the 7800GT gets the Mid-Range pricing, and the <gasp> 7600 or 7600GT gets sold for $100!
A 8 quad GPU at 90nm would probably have very very low yeilds and I would not expect NV's first 90nm part to be a high end like Vr Zone are suggesting.

Ultra High-End: 6800 Ultra
High-End (Enthusiast): 6800 GT
Mid-Range (Performance): 6600 GT
Low-End (Value): 6200
<snippage>
AFAIK the marketeers break down these three ranges into three more sub-ranges, so 6800GT is mainstream high-end, and 6800U is performance high-end. 6800NU and 6600GT would be value high-end and performance mainstream respectively.
So it's quite feasible for 7800GTX to be performance high-end, and 7800GT to be mainstream high-end.
Gotta love marketeers, where would the world be without them?

Oh... oh... I get it!
It's like,
Fast Fast: 6800U
Fast Medium: 6800GT
Fast Slow: 6800NU
Medium Fast: 6600GT
Medium Medium: 6600
Medium Slow: x
Slow Fast: 6200
Slow Medium: 6200TC
Slow Slow: all ATi cards
But... but... if as you suggested, the 7800GTX is Fast Fast, then where does the 32-pipe 500MHz 7800U come in (if it exists)? Will the marketeers create another segment -- Uber Fast? What could be above "Enthusiast High-End"?
(okay, I give up... I tried to come up with something witty but failed miserably... any creative people here?)

There is no roadmap or any other info that even hints the existence of an 7800U, only peoples wishful thinking that Nvidia just has to have a counterweapon to R520 because there is no way ATI can be better.
Nvidia has confirmed that there is no 7800Ultra!
I'm sure we'll see a refresh part(7900GTX) around R580 launch though.

If it exists, indeed. I think a lot of it depends on what R520 is like, and when it arrives. If it waits much longer it'll bump into the 7900's, and a 7800U won't be necessary.
Will the marketeers create another segment -- Uber Fast? What could be above "Enthusiast High-End"?
Well there were the (in)famous Ultra Extremes and ATI's XT PEs and so on, but those were more willy waving exercises that real products IMO.
