XFX 7800GTX std and "extreme" together in SLI?

I've bought an XFX 7800GTX a couple of weeks ago right when they were released.

Now I'm thinking about ordering a second one to complete my SLI system once again :)

In the mean time, XFX started to offer a second edition of their 7800GTX called "Extreme edition" which is clocked with 490/650 instead of the 450/625 that's used for their standard edition.

I wonder if I should order that extreme edition. I`can get it for only €20 more than the standard edition. But I'm not sure if it would work together with my existing 7800GTX.

The clock frequency is not the problem. My 7800GTX works just fine at 490/650, and even if it wouldn't, I'd happily accept to underclock the extreme edition if I have to. But at least I could use it's full power if I can't use SLI for some reason.

So what do you think? Will that work? Are there already tools that can flash 7800GTX, so I can copy the "extreme edition's" BIOS over to the other one if I have to?

Do they have the same bios ? I think that is the main problem :)

It will not need the same BIOS when Nvidia release Forceware 80 driver.

They'll work together if you flash em to the same bios. But at their default settings. They wont work together. So you may want to downclock one or overclock the other. Honestly I think your better off just getting the same version as the Overclock wont make much of a difference in SLI anyway since it'll be so CPU bound.

But how much faster will it get with an athlon 64 3500+ ?

for bios i don't know, but for speed i think the drivers (77.72) automaticaly overclock the second card to same speeds (even without coolbits or manual set)

i flashed 1 of my card (new speeds) and SLI worked very well, benchs gave me same results as when the two cards were flashed/or manually overclocked.
When i played with coolbits, it sets automaticaly "manual overclocking" at boot (with flashed speed) even without the option being selected.

then i flashed the second card too, at first card's speeds (480/1330). That's a shame because the second "auto detect" at 516/1370 with some margins behind.
