Wow, that is defianlty something very cool. They claim it can fit into any pci ex slot. Very usefull for those of us who have sli and dual monitors!! I may have to get one to test it out :D

I want one that fits without overheating between my SLI 6800U cards, so I can have SLI+multiple displays.

Hm, what mobo are you useing?

Also, on my DFi board, i should beable to plug a card in the 4x slot (runs at 1x). It is directly above the top sli card. However, i am worried that the heat given off by the backside would heat up the matrox.

Correct me if im wrong, but you can plug a 1x card into any pci express slot???

Indeed, according to the PCI Express specification, a PCI Express x1 card can be used in any compliant PCI Express slot.

For more information on PCI Express x1 (PCIe x1) (http://www.matrox.com/mga/workstation/3dws/news/features/g550_pcie.cfm#PCIe)...

Yep, looks like they should be shipping soon for a price of 125$

However, as saturn has pointed out, with a nvidia pci card and sli enbaled that card is disabled. maybe since they are both nvidia the sli dose that, but could the same happen with the matrox? someone will have to test it out!!!

I posted some resized pics of the hi-res TIFFs from the Matrox site in case some of you can't view TIFFs.

BGA memories ?!? I didn't know they were produced for low speed parts (G550 should use 6ns modules) Unless they were crazy enough to stuff some 3.3ns or better on them. In this case, they should overclock like crazy. :)

BGA is just the package type, you could technically use most IC's with BGA.

Secondly, who cares about overclocking this card, want your 2d to go faster?

I feel sad that Matrox has come to this. The biggest selling point for their latest card is, it's small. :(

Secondly, who cares about overclocking this card, want your 2d to go faster?Yes but I don't think there is enough demand for slow/cheap memory modules in BGA form factor. Otherwise we would have seen them also in other products. Classic TSOP packages are cheapeer and thus universally adopted for cheap (or slow) graphic cards. That was the point of my observation :)

Ya, too bad they arent faster and able for 3d gaming. I wanted a G400 when I just got started building PC's. They were just too darn expensive!

I still have a G400MAX lying somewhere.

Damn good card and fast card. It was beaten sometimes by the TNT2 ultra because the latter didn't do Trilinear filtering properly saving some workload (talking about filtering issues, eh NVidia :P ?) and because early Matrox Drivers sucked.

One thing I'll never understand is why they left the 3D arena so abruptly after the G400 to the point that they nether bothered to release a follow-on product. The G450 is a joke, even slower than original, same for the G550.
