I am shopping power supplies and was wondering about the advantage of getting one with dual 12v rails vs one with a really good single rail. I have a Nvidia 6800 GT AGP which is a power hog.

well one rail is dedicated to the cpu/mobo and stuff.. and the second one is for hard drives and other things.

Yep... long story short it makes your CPU and video card happier.

Assuming I get a power supply with dual rails, how many amps do I need on the two rails with an AMD 64 and a Nvidia 6800 GT?

I would recommend at least 18@.

my PSU has 19A on each 12V rail (two rails). runs great, i love it. its $100-$110 but i live by the idea that if youre going to run expensive hardware, you need a reliable power supply.
