I am running BF2 at the 1152x864. Frames can get as high as 90, but usually 50 to 60 and sometimes in action they're getting down to high 30s/40s. High settings. Everything on...as it should be with this 600 dollar card.

My system:

p4 3.4
asus mobo 5gdc-delux

2 gig ram-4 sticks. corsair on channel 1 kingston on 2. When i put the kingstons in the whole system runs at pc2700 when all the ram is pc 3200

BFG 7800GTX.

System does not overheat. idles 41 C. Load 49-51 C.

Please help. I expected this card to run everything fine at these settings.

Did you try to use Driver Cleaner?

Absolutely...new computer. I just built it yesterday.

I orginally installed drivers from box. Then i uninstalled, driver cleanered, and reinstalled the latest.

No improvement.

Does that benchmark seem low??

Certainly sounds a little odd, a 6800U can do those BF2 numbers without AA easily at 1600x1200 (my res). Though heavy smoke explosions (like bombs and artillery at once) can bring it down to a slideshow momentarily. A 7800GTX should be almost double the 6800U assuming highest detail is used.

Btw are you using software audio? If yes, that can slow your CPU down resulting in lower fps (client side predictions etc need the cpu).

Well I get 9070 with the specs in my sig, then again I'm running an Athlon 64, I would hate to say it but it could just be your P4 holding you back.

So whats the problem? Your fps is not high enough or the game does not play well with its current settings? What drivers are you using and have you tested any others? Also unless thats a monitor restriction you should be running at higher res with 7800.

For the system ram trouble have you checked to see if bois update may fix it? And try the system without the Kingston to trouble shoot to see if performance is better without it in.

You score seems fine, compare in the benchmark thread.

A 600$ GPU at the end of a 50$ CRT, priceless ;)

Also check that you arent using any refresh forces, but use the BF2 internal refresh settings. Also check AA to "Application Preference" in the nvidia drivers. And, BF2 can actually run much slower when you OC your GPU too much, at least it did for me where other games would run great. Had to drop my GT clocks and FPS went up!

I think you'll probably need SLi (2 x 7800GTX) to get any better performance than that...

I pretty much get the same performance wth my 7800GTX. I also was expecting more.

When I try to run the sound in hardware mode some sounds don't work. Sounds of aicraft engines while inside them is one of them.

Using an Audigy Gamer with latest drivers.

Took out kingston (2 kingston unmatched ram).

Now instead of 2gigs at pc2700 im running 1gig at pc3200.

Active

I'll test out bf2 again and see how it runs.

If you max everything out BF2 will run much more choppy with 1gb of ram.

Anyway, throw on 4xAA/16xAF and see if your frames stay the same. If they stay the same, its your CPU holding you back.

2gb ram is needed to run BF2 without any lags. Use 2x 1gb sticks instead of using 4x 512 sticks. What are your current timings? CL 2.2.2.5, command rate?

Some motherboards force the ram to run at PC 2700(DDR333) instead of PC 3200 when you occupy all 4 slots

Yeah. I tried the other two sticks and they run at pc3200 too. That is silly. Why do mobos do that?

BF2 runs better on my pc with 1 gig at pc3200 than 2 at pc2700???

Does that seem right.

Now im getting frames in the 60-80 range with peaks at 90s and lows around 50.

Weird...It runs better with 1 gig. See my previous post about RAM speeds. Is this right>?

Unfortunately that's the way they are, 2x1gig sticks is the only other option to retain memory speed(PC3200) and size(2gig) i think :)

Well the 7800 GTX chokes like all other cards on BF2 if you have full detail on and high resolution. I average 45-60 fps on karkand with most details on high and on some maps when the action gets real thick it will drop down to the 35-40 range. An SLI setup would be ideal but these cards are just too costly. The game just sucks, it's too demanding for what it offers graphically. Overall though I was and still am underwhelmed by the 7800's performance in this game, like you I was expecting 2x the min fps (which is what counts) I got with my OC'd X800XT PE and that simply did not happen.

EXACTLY. I had the x800xl before this card. I wanted the double the min fps too.

You could probably benefit alot by o/clocking your CPU/Ram. The 7800's seem to like High-end CPU's :)

Doesn't help much I've tried.

Not quite sure why everyone is blaming the gpu. Everybody knows this game is overly demanding for the graphics it delivers. Additionally, you should be running 2 x 512 sticks in the range of 250 fsb at least with a card like that along with a more powerful cpu (which IS holding you back quite a bit).

On a budget? Best thing to do is cry and wait for new drivers and/or new patches for BF2.
