Hopefully they decide to at least use the 2xAA capabilities of the RSX.

Images appear scaled up from 720p is what the dev dudes at B3D were saying, seems to jaggy for a native 1080p shot.

Yikes... some of that texturing looks nasty to me, though I suppose we could just be 'too close.' Anyone know what game this is supposed to be? Hopefully things will improve as we see more titles, as I must say this is a little underwhelming.

Eh, Its the Armored Core guys... They haven't ever put out anything special. Hell, They can't even come up with a good control sceme, they have been using the same crap since the original game.

But yeah, Im not impressed.

maybe sony just decided to keep all the ugly jaggies since they did such a wonderful job with them on ps2

It's the PS3 Armored Core Game... If you haven't played any of the AC games in the past, your not missing too much. Its a nice Mech Game with AWSOME customization but HORRIBLE controls and graphics that are mediocer.

From Software isn't a really good developer as far as graphics go. None of thier titles were ever mind blowing.

Forgot that they made them... ok, how about this... none of the Armored Core games they have made have ever been above average on the graphics front?

Video here. It actually looks alot better in motion, It's interesting to see that the entire enviroment is destructible. In the video I didn't see any jaggies (it was small so that could be the reason) but the screenshots could have been poor... who knows. Any way, take a look at the video, I like how the buildings take realistic damage.

No way in hell will PS3 support 1080p native for games. 1080p is just for Blu-Ray.

I've watched a few 1080p documentaries on my PC anyway, standard DVD9 disc. They were WMV though.

Why couldn't it? Sony has not stated if the 1080p is limited to movies only, they said the system will output native 1080p, thats it. Considering that sony has said that all developers must support a min of 720p/1080i, I would think that they could use 1080p, if not why say "min" if there is no higher output?

Its fully capable for the system to support 1080p (1920x1080) and thats easy for a 7800GTX to run (RSX is supposly more powerful).

EDIT:
Wow, "Lair" looks graphically awsome, The amount of dragons on screen is amazing. Now I wonder what the game is about...

I think that Project Force game looks awesome.

And after watching that Lair trailer... I REALLY want a Drakengard 3 (or Drag-on Dragoon 3) for PS3...

Well, Chrome Hounds on Xbox360 looks already better in just magazine scans :

Of course, I'm sure that PS3 games will kick some serious @ss concerning graphics. From Software just sucks a bit at realtime graphics ; their cg artwork rocks though.

This is the main reason I'm going with the X360. ALL titles will have AA thanks to the eDRAM.

I'm sure that the RSX isn't even breaking a sweat in that game. Wait for a game to take advantage of the hardware before judging it.

Well, technically it could, but its pointless and would look worse than 720p + AA. 1920x1080 takes a lot more horsepower than 1280x720 (especially with AA/AF enabled), and hence you won't be able to use as many graphical effects. On top of that, 99% of TVs don't support 1080p - even the "1080p" DLP sets coming out this winter aren't true 1080p (they are "wobbulated"). The only true 1080p device I've heard about is the JVC HD-ILA coming out this winter, but that may not be so hot for gaming since it uses liquid crystal technology.

In other words, using 1080p would mean a reduction in graphical effects plus a resolution that 99% of HDTV owners wouldn't be seeing (most seeing 720p or 1080i since those are the broadcast standards TVs are built around). Hence not only do you lose the effects, but people don't see the benefit of the higher resolution. Would be a bad move. 720p + 4xAA would be smarter.

i was wondering this yesterday...because the 360 has that wonderful eDRAM will it be able to do HDR with AA? will the ps3 not be able to do HDR+AA?

Good question. If its just a bandwidth issue then yeah, I don't see why the 360 wont be able to.

maybe im missing something here. i remember a thread a few days ago where some NV guru was talking about AA and HDR specific to current and future high end graphic parts. from what i can recall he seemed to indicate the reason why hdr and aa dont mix right now. if anyone remembers the discussion please link to it.

my understanding is that both hdr and fsaa are essentially post processed effects and each one is a final step in the rendering pipeline. you cant have two final steps that are as buffer consuming as aa and hdr and so you have to choose one or the other.

in the case of the ps3 from what we all understand its a modified 7800 which seems to operate very much, if not exactly, as its father part. ie, the rendering process is the same, therefore developers would choose whether a game gets aa or hdr.

with the 360 it seems possible that the hdr could be applied as a final step within the r500 and corrosponding ram and then aa is applied as a final final step with the edram.

im sure you can all tell that im no gfx engineer so go easy on me if ive got this all screwed up. :o

Well the video is way better and simpely looks good and the explosions are the best I've seen yet in a game taken the compressed quality in mind....
