This is just awsome, Every Dev Kit comes with the UE3, Havok and AGEIA... that opens alot of possibility to have many UE3 based games right from the start. Since we know the PS3 can easily handle the engine, it will be awsome to see what some Japanese Developers can come up with.

MMM Imagine MGS4 using UE3...

I'm really excited to hear about the support for AGEIA in PS3. At first I was worried about AGEIA's success, and that the idea just wouldn't catch on, but with the support for the PS3 a lot of games that are cross-platform developed will probably take advantage of AGEIA.

Wow. Just wow!

It seems to me that these are the sort of announcements that MS are usually making. I know it says nothing about exclusivity (indeed we know UE3 is being used on X360) but MS must be kicking themselves for not getting in there first.

We all know about the Sony hype-machine but really the PS3 is looking more and more exciting everyday.

Awesome... but Kojima won't use any engine his team didn't create more than likely... he likes to do things on his own and I love that about him and his team.

Same here, I'm very excited about this company and what AGEIA can do for games. :D

For clarification, it looks like the dev kits will come with a demo of UE3. Meaning devs will still have to license the full UE3 engine if they want to use it for their games.

sony is basically just doing the novodex thing from ageia. When the ps3 was announced they announced support for novodex thus ageia. the havok thing is new though.

Not a demo but rather an evaluation copy of the Engine, Meaning a developer could test out the engine to its limits and if they want to publish the game, they just need to pay a licensing fee through sony, which is smaller then the seperate one through Epic (Epic has a sublicensing aggreement with them).

In any case : all this means development cost/time reductions for PS3 developers becuz it would cost them more time and money if they had to code their own physics system from scratch.

Sony seems to get the development library 'mistakes' of PS2, right, with PS3.

Very sweet news. Man I wish Epic has stock we can buy. ;)

Caught wind of the Ageia deal yesterday... and I still haven't picked my jaw up off of the floor. It's certainly great news for both companies.

Then Kutaragi issued a somewhat ominous warning. "I'm not going to reveal its price today. I'm going to only say that it'll be expensive," he stated.

Oh dear!

My guess is going to be 399... that is "expensive" for a console... but honestly I wouldn't mind with everything that is being jammed into it.

if it will just be 399 then i think i will own a ps3 in 1 year :P

anyway i remember that a man by nvidia said he is sceptic but curios about AGEIA and that the physic simulation can be done into the gpu.

We're looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3.
lol didn't a Microsoft rep say something similar for the original XBox?

Yeah but Sony has been good with keeping thier consoles around with strong support for longer then most other consoles, even after the PS2s launch the PSX was still going strong.

Yeah... Nintendo dropped production of games on N64 MONTHS before the Gamecube came out... Sony made games for the PS1 for at least a year after the PS2 came out.

Yeah. I hope you're right because while 399 is expensive, its not too expensive for me (though it might well be for others). I think 450-499 might be a little too much for me though and I would have to wait until the first price drop to get one which might not be for at least a year after release.

I would actually be incredibly gutted if it does cost 450-499, because I'm already a little bit excited by this console and by the time Q2/3 2006 comes round I'll probably be counting the days till I can get one.

$399 would be ok for me considering it's a console that won't need replacing for a few years. At that price I hope it comes with at least two controllers and all the accessories I will need to get started.
