ATI should stop wasteing time and money on old stuff thats never going to sell ,I mean how many people going to down grade to a ATI mother board and buy a couple of out of date X850XT ,when you can already get a 7800GTX that is just as fast in nearly ever game and has PS3 VS3 support. They should be worrying about getting the R520 out and makeing dam sure it makes nvidia sweat because of how fast it will be. (Hopeing)they should be makeing a duall core 520 and a Gig of memory on it and make it where it works in any mother board,

It wasn't so "stupid" when people bought a new motherboard for SLI. Absolutely correct. Those people also got a bag full of advanced goodies to go with it. :D
In my opinion, Crossfire was always intended to be used for the r520, but was flashed with the x850 series so ATI could actually show us some of it.
I agree, buying 2 X850's in Crossfire only benefits people who like to waste money. Otherwise, you can simply buy a 7800 GTX for less the price and comparable performance.
But that's not to say this Crossfire is a waste, because I don't think it is. SLI might be more beneficial, but it's something ATI could always improve on, just as nVidia has made some improvements to SLI (such as the 16x AA).
There are a lot of people, though, that are having way too high expectations of Crossfire, when in actuality, the only features and benefits of this technology are being vocalised by the creator company, itself, ATI. Atleast that's where I'm mostly hearing the "sexed up" talk from.
Yes, benchmarks prove to make it out attractivlely, but I think the bigger question is how Crossfire running with the r520 will compare with 7800 GTX (or any other G70 series card) in SLI.
Tell me this, how many games today actually use SM3 for anything important?
Several months ago, not many. But now, and in the coming months, it is a feature that will prove to be quite beneficial, and I see it as a dead move to invest in any Shader Model 2 cards, atleast for high-end, that is.
