Out of pure curiosity... why are folks raving about a card with that cooler... the "vanilla" 7800 GTX can be clocked higher and is much leaner space-wise. One should hope the trend is towards leaner and more efficient hardware, not the other way round. I really don't want to sound like a troll here. I just don't comprehend the reaction of some people in this thread regarding the 7800-based Quadro card.

Best regards...

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo :( :( :(

anyway there is an error, they wrote it can do 181 million triangle per second but it should be wrong coz even 6800U could do more (600 million vertex).

and they miss to say the gpu clocks

That's only because they are so quick to believe that this actually is some new ultra card.

I still don't understand this line of thinking. nVidia clearly stated that the "GTX" moniker is meant to replace the "Ultra" one:
Q: Is there a GeForce 7800 Ultra?
GeForce 7800 GTX is our top of the line. We had so much positive response for the GT SKU (single slot, great performance) that we wanted to build upon that success and brand. GeForce 7800 GTX takes NVIDIA's high end performance offering to the next level.
I don't see what's so hard to understand about that.

it's not 7800ultra, it's the newest Quadro

Yeah but why? I mean, the 7800GTX is a freaking monster! It's the most powerful video card on the planet! It's low-power, single-slot, and highly overclockable! The kind of speculative clock speeds and features that people were saying sounded like stuff we'd see on video cards two more more generations away. I dunno. I just haven't seen people go all ape**** crazy over some mythical beast video card before when they already have one right in front of 'em. :)

Yes thank you, we established that 2 pages ago. ;)

I hope you also understand that the PR stuffs are nVidia *WANTED* us to believe.

It's easy. I don't believe in consipracy theory-BS. nVidia was asked a question, "Will there be a 7800 Ultra", and their answer was, "The 7800GTX is the 7800 Ultra". If you choose not to believe that then you are completely irrational, that's all there is to it.

Yeah that's true, I keep forgetting I'm in the "rumors" section...I spend too much time in the PR forum. :D

It's not a conspiracy theory. Read your little quote again. They didn't say "there will be no 7800 Ultra". They said "7800GTX is our top of the line"

There is a major difference between the question "WILL there be a 7800Ultra?"and the question they got asked "IS there a 7800Ultra?"

Nvidia will release a faster card than the 7800GTX. It's just a fact. Eventually a company puts out a faster card. When does a company do this? When the OPPOSITION puts out a faster card. It's only logical that Nvidia would not want ATI to be the market leader, so would have a card to combat the R520 if it's faster. It's not crazy to think- it's what's happened for eternity

Arguing over there being an ultra is silly. So the GTX replaces the ultra badge, fine. But there is no reason not to expect a refresh (if need be) in november or december. Maybe a GTX-R on 90mn with higher core clocks and with 1400 memory. Just a guess on my part. :)

They said "7800GTX is our top of the line" that doesnt make any sence what so ever ...so they are gonna release a top of the top line ? then when does that line end ....that makes no sence what so ever ...

Exactly, they never defined where the line ends. Pretty much all they said is "The 7800GTX is our top of the line card" meaning a new top of the line card (say, a 7800Ultra) could come out at any time. All they said was there was no 7800Ultra currently out, which we all already knew

Of course there will be a refresh, that goes without saying, but it will not be the "G71" or have specs anywhere near what the INQ speculated the G71 will have

The fact that this thread is still going amazes me. I don't want to be one of those people that ponder publicly why they're still here, but c'mon people. This is like encouraging the spread of misinformation! If there's an ultra, talk about it then. But there's no evidence here to suggest that.

Well, this is the Rumours section. If there aren't any floating around, surely we can create some?
