I got a quick question. Are there any 19-20 inch Widescreen LCDs that are in the $400 or so range and are good for gaming. I saw the dell coupon but the thing is, I'm not gonna be buying one now but a couple months from now. I'm new to LCDs so I was wondering if someone could help.

Awesome.

It is an advantage, you see more of the playing field in widescreen. The Dell 2005fpw's response time is listed as 12ms gray to gray and 16ms black to white, IIRC. It is definitely as sharp and responsive as the 12ms Samsung 712N it replaced.

There is a little hastle setting up Quake and Doom, you have to modify the config file, but it was easy enough. HL2 supports it natively.

The 2005FPW from Dell isn't bad but it's slightly out of your price range. I've seen it for as little as around $475 shipped. Not sure if it's got down below that though. You have to wait for a special.

I don't think there are any 19" widescreen displays on the market. Least none that I'm aware of.

$384 was a great deal. I think I paid $550 shipped for mine a couple months after it came out. Then I gave it to my wife and got a 2405FPW. :)

Seems like every couple months a new coupon code comes out. Just watch gotapex.

How's the 2405FPW for gaming?

In my experience just fine. I don't notice any motion blur during gameplay unless I stand facing a wall and purposefully strafe back and forth. That is the only time it comes out at all. During combat you will never notice it IMO.

The aspect ratio is great for games and viewing high definition/WS movies. I highly recommend it - when you can get it for $800-900 it's a steal IMO.

You have to specify resolution on the command line/shortcut. It's retarded that the game is like this but it is. Check out widescreengaming's forums for more info.

Yeah, I saw the topic on BF2 in Widescreengaming forums... It doesn't look that bad so as long as it works.

There is no way that Microsoft could get away with releasing an operating system that is incompatible with even the newest models of the top retail computer company (Dell), it would be market suicide.

He's talking about HDCP - and it's not going to be incompatible in the sense it won't work at all. What it means is that if you have DRM enabled content and try to play it with Longhorn on a monitor that doesn't support HDCP then the output will be downsampled and look like shat. Not quite the same thing as incompatible. Annoying, yes...
