It seems to be like Adaware and Spybot. But has caught some things my other programs didnt. It also can be auto updated and configured. First time configuring of it was a bit annoying but I am liking it.

Anyone else try it? Its free obviously. Nice to see a microsoft product for spyware removal too.

It's only free for beta though, I thought. I tried it a LONG time ago when it was first released and it was okay, but meh. I'll stick to spyware. The MS one seemed rather intrusive and it was always running, which I didn't much care for.

Yeah, same here. I tried it when it first came out and while it worked pretty well, I couldn't figure out how to keep it from running all the time. I just wanted to launch it occasionally to check on things.

You can disable it from auto starting in the options sections. I'll give it a go. I just like how it manages to get some things adaware and spybot cant :|

I absolutely love AntiSpyware, particularly for the real-time protection that I can use on people's machines that I work on. But it truly is still necessary to use multiple anti-spyware program to clean some computers. I had a friend's laptop over here and it took AdAware, MS AntiSpyware, SpyBot, and Norton Antivirus to clean everything off of it.

It's definitely good stuff, but as has been said it doesn't do it all.

Typically I run CWshredder, Adaware, Spybot, MS Antispyware and Hijack This after I've virus scanned with Kaspersky and Norton.

Webroot SpySweeper does it all for me  Beats em all IMO.

I would much rather have to run several freeware programs that work perfectly when used together than pay for a program that has the same effectiveness; but then again, I am quite the cheap bastard :D

I think I heard somewhere that MSAS was going to be released for free after the Beta, but I'm not too sure.

Microsoft is now requiring validating Windows before you can download AntiSpyware. :thumbdwn:

You can still get it from FileForum, I think.

Hey at least MS isn't requiring validation for security patches to the OS/IE. It could be worse. Plus if you have a legit copy - then it's ofcourse no big deal at all.

Actually they are requiring validation for security patches now if you go through the Windows Update site. Automatic updates still apply just fine, and there is an amazingly simple workaround, but still.

And I do have a legit copy, but have been using a pirated one for the convenience of not having to go through activation. I would simply install the legit one, but because I did that whole free upgrade to XP x64 bit, the regular copy is no longer in working condition. And I don't want to upgrade to x64 until the printer driver situation is a bit more under control (neither of the printers in our house has x64 drivers available), so for now I'm kind of stuck.

You're right about that actually and I found this:
Before pressing 'Custom' or 'Express' buttons paste this text to the address bar and press enter:
javascript:void(window.g_sDisableWGACheck='all')

It turns off the trigger for the key check. There is also an another way to defeat WGA, read here.

The inconvenience imposed upon us by activation is in my experience rather trivial. I've had to call once and it took about 5-10 minutes to do it. Not a big deal IMO. BTW x64 OEM still requires activation. My copy does anyway.

Bummer about your XP32 license there but you basically got a free upgrade out of it - beats paying $150 for a XP64 OEM copy.

Ive been using MS AntiSpyware for about 1/2 a year now. Works great for me. I switched to it after I couldnt get this browser hijack removed by using adware.

It actually isnt a MS product. Its from GIANT. MS just bought GIANT out or something. But I would recommend it to anyone looking for a new anti spyware proggie.

Oh I completely agree, and I do plan to install XP64 soon, but right now the driver support just isn't there. Having to buy a new printer to use that OS would be tantamount to having to pay for the OS in the first place. But I know Lexmark will never release an XP64 driver for my printer, and Dell probably won't ever release an XP64 driver for our family printer, so I'll probably have to buy a new one at some point anyway.

I use MS AntiSpyware but I also use Lavasoft Ad-ware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy. They all find different things, one will say the PC is clean while the other will find something...
