Hi there

To be short and breif I have this information which is accurate and from the main cheeses at ATI, it is NDA but I am not under NDA as such so can give you some info:-

Crossfire working motherboards, graphics cards (X850 XT & X800 XT) available early September.

R520 which will be released in Platinum 512MB (9000 on 3D Mark 2005) available end of September but severe allocation issues, the willy waving product as ATI put it, but not easily available. Plus 512MB means a £450+ price area ish, I have pleaded with ATI to release a 256MB version so I hope they listen, but due to yield rates they may stick to 512MB for ultimate high-end as such. Same as G70, 24 pipelines, approx 520MHz core and 1.4GHz memory.

More readily available at end of September will be the non platinum which will no doubt perform identical to a 7800GTX, 24 pipelines, 500MHz core and 1.3GHz memory expect. Still only 512MB, but again pleaded for a 256MB version, lets keep our finger crossed.

There will also be lower end 16 pipeline version too, no doubt called Pro's.....

So ATI will have a product by end of summer, it has no real performance advantage over the 7800GTX, except for the Platinum edition which will be so severe on availability it will have a £500+VAT price. Obviously R5xx series adds SM3.0 to the lineup and other features NV cards have...

What ATI will rely on is their Crossfire out performing SLi.

Then expect NVIDIA to release a 7800 Ultra in October to beat the Platinum that ATI release. NVIDIA will do their best to stay on top. As NVIDIA are using the 0.11 process they have much better yield rates. Wheras ATI are on a newer 0.09 process which means yields rates to begin with are poor but with time this will improve and when it does ATI cores will overclock like champions, but expect that around R580 time which is Jan/Feb next year which is when NV's new botty kicker cores will show face.

So there you have it, those who have gone ahead with buying 7800GTX you've not lost out and you will no doubt not change your cards for ATI's new one and anybody thinking to buy its clear 7800 GTX is a safe buy.

P.S. X850 XT Platinum on both AGP and PCI-E is now EOL but X850 XT is remaing on both platforms and OcUK might have some treats for you soon on prices.

Ati will be the king of sleaze if they slap 512megs of memory and charge a premium to keep people from buying the r520.

ATi is already the king of sleaze as far as I'm concerned. But I'm a fanboi, so...

See...its ok as long as you admit that your a fanboy!

I think both companies are kings of sleaze....just NV has been a little less sleazy on this last gen or so. My opinion anyways.

At any rate...more cards=more competition=lower prices. YAY!

Lower prices for Nvidia most likely

ATI is having yeild issues, and availability will be tight. If they lower the cost, then it will hurt them big time

Nvidia is already ganna have a ton of 7800GTX available, and lowering the price on those won't be as hard hitting at it would be for ATI. Might actually help sales

My opinion at least

Very intreing info about the 512mb parts, and the street date he provides. He was pritty much dead on with the G70 info so maybe he has a good source!

512 megs of ram isn`t that big deal. 7800Ultra will have 512 megs, too ;)

At least, just a few numbers to sell more cards to people who think "more mem means more power". And they bought a 5600nU 256 MB and wondering why the card can`t beat a 4ti4200. I know those kind of peps ;)

But, for the beloved enthusiasts, its just a perfect deal :)

Wow that are really very bad for ATI, the yield for 24 pipelines are very bad than when ATI R520's 3rd respin was successful and they were satisfied with the yield but it seem the yield getting worse when attempted to mass produced the chips.

512Mb R520 XT PE to be cost around £587.50/$1,023.21, it could be bare faster than Geforce 7800GTX Reference 430/1200 but couldnt compete with higher clocked BFG, XFX, EVGA, Gigabyte and Gainward cards at much cheaper prices. R520 XT will be slower than 7800GTX, it wont have performance advantage over it and have all the same features Geforce 7 series have. R520 Pro with 16 pipelines will stand no chance with little brother 7800 GT with 20 pipelines.

ATI new R5xx lineup are looking really very bad at hefty prices, ATI will lose a hell lot of money on bad yield just like Nvidia did lost lot of money with NV30 but it seem ATI will lose money on the whole line. If ATI couldnt able to make and sell the whole new line, unable to clear old inventory and no improvement on TSMC 0.09 micron process by end of year then ATI will be more likely be out of business or takeover by another company next year.

Not any different than alot of the "info" providers, but the common thread is that the R520 is going to be 24 pipelines with far lower core clocks than previously hyped.

If have found that you take initial estimates and cut them by 25%, the reality starts to set in and finally all of the projections and leaks start to drop down to reality. Sure, absolutely no reason to believe this guy over anoyone else, but if the info is made up, he at least is being rational and following the patterns of the previous launches and product cycles from ATI.

The g70 info was pretty accurate from the guy at oc uk. so i believe this info, well, almost 60% of it.
one more thing, will they have AGP version of the r5xx?, and also will they have a 32 pipe vpu/card?
P.S. X850 XT Platinum on both AGP and PCI-E is now EOL but X850 XT is remaing on both platforms and OcUK might have some treats for you soon on prices.
whats EOL?
