View Full Version : 75.03 (LDDM) for Windows Vista!!!!!! 18/07/05
Try Pieter's modded INF it will include the 6200.
No it won't work. NVIDIA doesn't have all the GPUs supported yet since the OS is soooooooo beta.
In fact, I read that the graphics subsystem in Vista beta 1 is so old, that its not being developed on anymore. Probably the reason why nvidia just released a simple alpha driver to let some users start testing the OS.

What's the difference between Vista's interface and XP's interface with Longhorn Transformation Pack installed?
The transparency, fade, and glass effects. The transparancy effects are much, much different than the ones that can be enabled via nvidia drivers and are enabled via avalon. Integrated search is the second difference. The third one is the start menu. The fourth difference is virtual folders and the preview mode. To see all the differences, get the torrent and try it but don't go shouting and screaming how much is sucks. It is not nearly feature complete and many, many things interface wise will change.
Basicly Avalon is rendering the desktop on the GPU, opposed to handling it on CPU.
So its partly offloading your CPU, and since your using your very advanced DX9 GPU to render it, you can have some rather nice effects done, such as the "frosted glass" type of transparancy in the default "Theme" in Vista Beta1.

As opposed to simpler tricks with gradual transparancies..
You guys running Vista, how is the general performance? Can you even play any games? Are your tweaked or untweaked systems sluggish at all compared to XP? Unfortunately all the file sharing apps are on my notebook at the repair shop, so can't testdrive Vista for awhile.

Surprisingly, Windows Vista Beta 1 is a speedy performer. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to see statistics showing that it's already faster than XP on the same hardware. This is somewhat confusing to me, since early betas are generally not tuned for performance. Plus, Vista has an incredibly dense UI compared to XP. I'll be interested to see whether this changes over time.

I had a lot of driver issues at first, but they're worked out now.
Vista is not very stable on my machine, so I can't really test any games. Thankfully this doesn't seem to be the case with most other testers, so I'll be re-installing with all the new drivers one day this week.

Here's another article with info on LDDM and changes to the driver model/D3D in general, as well as some other features Vista will offer.
