View Full Version : The General RIAA advises: hearing MP3 is bad for hearing
I read this at slashdot, and wondered if RIAA could use this against MP3 users, as the general surgeon uses advises against smoking .
COMENTS FROM SLASHDOT :
zenst writes "A rather interesting read about possible damage to your hearing due to the way most audio compression techneques work. They mainly work by presenting a signal that the brain perceives to be the same as the original and it is this assumption that could effect our hearing and the way we hear."

PS.: The author wrote this at the end of the article:
"I personally own mainly cheap CDs and phono records, but almost no downloaded MP3 musics."

I never heard any satanic mesages in mp3 files BUT if you stop the lp for ledZeplin stairway to heaven when the lyrics say "there's still time to chainge the road your on" and spin it backwards it will clearly say "here's to my sweet satan"
I heard it will also make you go blind and give you hairy palms.

are the RIAA really running that low on ideas? i mean cmon if mp3s are compressed then what the HELL is a telephone conversation?! oh no wait its pretty much impossible to pirate a telephone conversation... therefore its perfectly safe with the RIAA

this has nothing to do with the RIAA. it is a "study" done by some whacko in Germany.

And here I always heard it was flogging the bishop that would cause that :D Man the RIAA must have some pretty good spin-meisters there j/k And listening to MP3s being bad for one's hearing ROFL And oh yeah RIAA with about the same level of veracity as this study could claim, I could say that inserting noise in copy protected CDs can cause the same problem.
Feed me a line...lets make an argument about the reconstruction of a digital signal found on a CD not being exactly like the analog wave of the original and that this damages people's hearing too. Oh but wait, they want to sell CDs as long as they can copy protect them. Never mind, their perposterousness would conveniently not extend that far :p
