I think nvidia is more focused on a 90nm core version of the 7800. Maybe the "7600" will come out with a 90nm core aswell.

It will continue to be filled with the 6600GT and 6800 respectively. Remember, the 7 seires is just an expansion of the 6 series, not a replacement.

Hehe, just guessing (notice I referenced the Inquirer) as there is no 7600GT as far as I know but I believe we will see a 7800GT sometime soon. ;)

The 6600gt came out last fall.

12 months is about as much as anything lasts in the same price bracket, and ATI isn't going to just sit around and do nothing, I would think.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Honestly. I think you're wrong about this. The 6600GT has had a healthy lifetime. But from the looks of it. That lifetime will slowly be ending soon. And its probably time for Nvidia to move forward

If there is a 7600 in the works, I doubt we will see it any time soon. The current line up seems reasonable.

$100 - 6600
$150 - 6600GT
$200 - 6800

The problem with that is. Geforce 6800 cards use an expensive process. And in the AGP form. Are Nv4x cores,(Broken or not) Moving down to a new process would cheapen costs and probably easier to mass produce for a midrange card. If the X800GT hits widespread retail availability. It's terribly unlikely Nvidia will continue to rely on a 6600GT in that price segment after a year of market dominance.

true, but nvidia also didnt expect ati to be having this many problems. i honestly have no idea about the 7600, but one possibility is that they have seen ati being slow to release something, so they dont have that enormous pressure to release something new just yet

More pixel shading and math calculation power, Transparency AA and Gamma Corrected AA is the win. 6 series will not have those features, and ATI is bringing out the RV515 and RV530. Nvidia cannot ignore those, so there will be 7600 and 7200 series cards.

Isnt the x800gt basically a x700? Dont both of them have 8 pipes and run between 400-500mhz?

X800GT uses the unusable cores from X800 XL, so no its not an X700.

ChrisRay is right. 7600GT or whatever the midrange is called will be released and the 6600 series will just drop in price. It always happens like that.

It happens like that when NVIDIA has competition, but right now there is none. So why produce new midrange cards now when people are steadily buying up the current ones?

Because Nvidia wants the people who already have 6600GT to upgrade to 7600GT. ;)
