Or just use the auto-update feature. :D

Let's see if they add advertisements for products into this patch as well. The last one put "Coke Zero" on the vending machines and movie posters for "The Island" everywhere. :thumbdwn:

Interesting, a lot of people were asking for this, so it looks like they finally got it. What does it actually allow for though? Do all the special effects that were previously only in the SM3.0 path for the game work on ATI cards now then (except for HDR, obviously)? Also shouldn't that PS2.0 path work on FX cards as well?

I'll try and do some comparison screenies if I get a chance.

2.0 support is fantastic news for ati 9800 and x800 owners. hope the trend of including 2.0 whether in release or a patch continues.

i would love to see those as well. I'll try and do some comparison screenies if I get a chance.

It is such bull**** that they have ads in games. We already paid $50...that isn't enough money as it is? If this wasn't one of the best games I'd ever played, I'd be a little more irate. They're lucky...

Actually, the patches don't put in the ad's. The game itself occasionally connects to the net and downloads new ads.

Well that's crap as well. It's sort of cool to see the Coke Zero machines instead of some made up product, but seeing posters advertising an as-of-yet unreleased movie on the walls of a ship's quarters is a bit stupid.

Why does it matter if there are ads in the game?

Yeah, the only news I'm waiting for is that they've removed starforce/CD requirement. I wish they'd do like Epic and remove the need for the CD after the game has been out a while. I have 3 games that I basically have to have the CD in the drive to play and those 3, I never play. It's just too much trouble and if I'm going to have to deal with CDs for every game, I might as well play on a console. One of the things I really like about PC gaming is that I have all my games instantly available.

OWA, you've hit the head of the nail quite squarely. All the games I play are done so without the cd. I don't want to wear out my drive and the case door components needlessly, and leaving the case front open is not happening. Also, I like my cd/dvds pristine.

Why does it matter if there are ads in the game?It is fine if it fits. But, movie posters in particular are not placed well. Takes you right out of the game, effectively killing some of it's greatness off. Also, don't check the net behind my back to download more ads. It just makes me angry.

I think the ads just cheapen the game all around. It really makes it seem like all they care about is money and where it comes from is the least of their worries. If they have to take their game down a peg, so be it. And that's BS as far as I'm concerned.

Using 3DAnalyzer, it seem the SM2.0 path has evry single feature of the SM3.0 path, including HDR with Tone-mapping.

It does, my friend with a 9800XT comfirmed it. I'm fairly sure SCCT uses the same type of HDR as Farcry though, so they must of had to come up with an alternate method for the SM2.0 mode.

Probably the same HDR method used in the HDR Ribbthing demo, or an FX16 HDR method. Can't comfirm tho.

Whats the point in adding support for those features if there isn't any SM2.0 hardware that has hardware support for those features?

So any ATi user checked it yet ?? what features are now unlocked with the SM2.0 support ?
i think its too late but good news nevertheless.
& in case all features were possible afterall for the R3xx/R4xx hardware then i guess that turns the table for the people who claimed that the extra SM3.0 features were not possible with the SM2.0 capable hardware & on top of them Ubisoft :bleh:

All features that were previously "SM3.0 only" are unlocked now for all ATi Radeon 9500+ cards. That includes: Parallax Mapping, Soft Shadows, HDR, Tone Mapping.

Probably the same HDR method used in the HDR Ribbthing demo, or an FX16 HDR method. Can't comfirm tho.

If that were the case, then you should be able to use FSAA with it. So far, it seems the game detects FP16 filtering/blending hardware since even with 3danalyze and using the Sm2.0 path, you still can't use FSAA with HDR.

Also, the SM2.0 path seems to be slower than the SM3 path on my video card. By about 5 fps with all extra options enabled. It's faster than the SM1.1 path with the extra options disabled though. But the SM3 path with all extra options disabled is still a bit faster.

Can't really tell the difference between the HDR done in either mode. Maybe someone with a real ATi card should check if there are any differences between the HDR in both modes.

There is a difference even when running on ATI hardware as this member or Beyond3D proved.

Also in addition this image was taken using ATI hardware. Note that AA is disled because HDR is enabled in the advance shader options.

It looks pretty decent. It looks damned close to what I remember it looking like on my old Athlon XP system with my 6800GT.

Thanks for the link mac

I had sold the game because the color banding pissed me off on my 9700pro but I bought it again so I can enjoy to its fullest. I don't know what they did for the HDR but it looks ****ing sweet. FINALLY after all these years we have a game that can do HDR on the R300 line BESIDES the upcoming lost coast. I could care less wether this is HDR,MDR or "LDR" as that other guy in Rage3d said  but the whole point is that it looks great and that 9700pro/9800pro users can finally enjoy a game with some sort of HDR that ISNT Bloom...

Heres a better comparison(If i do say so myself) of HDR Enabled and Disabled on my trusty 9700pro
