hey guys, recently upgraded to a gainward 6800U and while everything seems ok, i noticed my custom desktop logos keep changing back to the default windows logos after every reboot.

why is this? the only change i've made is install the new nvidia drivers which are 66.93 (recommended by a friend) for the AGP 6800U which i've got.

does it have something to do with the desktop management built into the drivers?

TIA.

I keep the desktop management option disabled, so that might be why I've never encountered the bug before. Give that a shot, but also try a different driver (77.56 is a good choice at the moment).

yeah the drivers your friend recommended are pretty old by our standards.

The driver your friend recommended is horrible and full of bugs. I remember having the same problems with that driver a long time ago when it came out. Do yourself a favor and download the newest driver off the nvidia page and you should be fine ;) Im using 77.30's with no issues ... I think the 77.72's are the current ones :)

Yes, it is your drivers. Several old sets did this and it has since been fixed. I recommend the 77.72 set or the 77.76 set. Both can be found on NVIDIA's official website.

77.72s are the official non-betas, but, per NV habit, their BETA driver is their best official driver. 77.76 are the 77.72s with some bug fixes and the extremely valuable OpenGL triple buffering option. Extremely solid set. Just click "BETA Drivers" at the main driver download page.

You won't be dissappointed.

I don't see the 77.72's where you mentioned. What gives?

Ignore the 77.72's. 77.77 is the latest official whql certified driver
