The wife just ok'd a new card for Christmas I was wondering if we will see a variation of the 7 series by Dec or will the 8 series be out early next year? Thanks!
can you start a thread in the right forums.....
no one knows at the moment anyway, IHVs don't have a habit of letting the cat out of the bag untill necessary ;)

It depends all on ATI really.
If they ever get the 520 to market and the performance is
better than the 7800GTX they may release a faster
78xx for christmas.
If ati fails to bring the 520 to market with killer performance
then no nvidia will ride the GTX till spring.
I think the GTX might be it till spring anyway.
ATI is going to do no better than a 24 pipe card
at most. There is no way ati is going to be
able to bring a 32 pipe card to market this year.
If they do it will be so hard to find it's not even funny.
The cost would be 700+us IF you could find one.
I do see a 512meg 7800 for Christmas after
the prices fall on the 256meg part.
If anyone cannot see ATI is having problems
they r blind. Look at how long nvidia has been
ahead and ati has not been able to respond.
Reminds me of the whole Intel-AMD thing.
Intel has nothing to respond with and ati
is in the same boat.
ATI has been riding the old dead horse X800-50
for over 18 months.
Nvidia has had a SM3.0 part out this long and ati
could do nothing to respond. Just clock there old
out of date hardware faster. That's it.
ATI needs to learn speed is not everything.
I want features to. ;)

Cool I'd like to jump on a 512 7800 part. Well whatever is the best card around christmas is what I'll get. My 6800 Ultra has been great but i can see in the next few months it may be the end of it's cycle! I like 1600x1200 with max visuals!

I doubt we'll see the 8 series before next spring, though I have a suspicion it will roughly coincide with Vista.
I'd be very tempted to ditch my nu for a 7600gt (ie a cheap overclocked 6800gt) assuming they release any of these in agp flavour... Otherwise I'll hold out for an 8800.

Nvidia won't releasing any major upgrades before Windows Vista.

All we can do is wait and see. For marketing purposes, it makes sense for Nvidia's "Vista" cards to have their own series number (ie 8 series), and they'll want them on the shelves in time for Vista...

My wish list ==gpus > 100 fps @ 16x12 with max detail, effects, AA/AF/Transparency and all that jazz and $250 price tag or less
I'd like to see a 12 pipe G70 based card running at 500mhz core and 900mhz memory for $200. It would probably fall between a 6800GT and Ultra and then you have improved HDR performance and transparency AA. :drooling:

I think you might see a souped up version of the gtx by xmass yes. But somthing truly next next gen? Nah, not till next year.
I think the 7800 GTX will be king of the hill till next spring....might wanna just wait till then, the 7 series is more a refresh to the nv40, the g80 next year will be the real meat and potatoes card for ut2k7, prey, etc.
