Hi
I will try to write as much information as I can
We have SUN AMD Opteron machine (Dual CPU, 8 GB memory) and we run Redhat x86_64 WS 3 update 4 ( Kernel Linux 2.4.21-27.ELsmp ) (Dual Monitor) , one of our users tried to run an application ( gocad ) with large job, so the processing ran for around 1 week any way when he tried to unlock the screen and login to the machine he found the screen doesn't respond and nothing work!! , he can rsh/ssh to the machine and can do anything there but he is not able to login and check his desktop and application
as root I switched the system to level 3 (to shutdown the GUI) and that still doesn't work (I get blank screen) so I tried to unload nvidia module but still not able
