I find it odd that there are tens of world class athletes from the USA alone competing in Helsinki right now, lots of superb events and exitement, tears of joy and failure.. and no thread!

The mens Shot Put winner Adamn Nelson had fought for that medal for years and finally got it, and everybody loved the guy, except his home crowd?

And its not as if theres no rewards, the 20km winner got 100 000 USD bonus, and the 3000m winner got 1 million dollars. Athletics is also a place for any country or race to succeed, not just some elite millionaires who can afford not having a dayjob.

And how about betting, some people are making huge scores (and losses) betting with skill and knowledge of the individual athletes.

There are spectacular injuries, falls and tumbles for those seeking malicious pleasure.

Their entire future and past can be wrecked if they get caught for doping.

It's all there. Forget league sports for a few days ffs! :afro2:

I live about 1km from the stadium, but i didn't go because the tickets were too expensive. Weather sucks too, it's been raining all week :( Shop put final has been one the best events so far and clearly the right guy won.

I forgot they dont even televise the event in the US at all.. that is so lame I just cant believe it. Hundreds of channels spewing out garbage 24/7 and no athletics, think about it.

Justin Gatlin is a real promising runner and a fine and intelligent man, from brooklyn NY. Looks like will smith with muscles and not such a show-off. And nobody in the states even knows who he is, shame shame. On the other hand those cap-bustin, ho-slappin NBA stars like Kobe Bryant are national heroes :P
