alright, here's the deal.

I just bought my second BFG 7800 GTX to run in SLI mode with my DFI Ultra-D SLI board along with my X2 4400+ CPU.

I initially had some problems getting the display to even come up in Windows XP but thats fixed. so I then decided to run 3DMark 2005 to see what kind of differences I'd seen between one video card and two.

but to my surprise, my scores went DOWN from 8915 (with one 7800 GTX) to 8600 (with two 7800 GTXs). now what the heck is that all about???

everything is showing okay in my display properties. it shows my display as a multi-GPU setup and I can view each GPU's temp and everything. I didnt know weither to use the GPU load balancing so I tried it with and without but that didnt do nothing for my 3DMark score.

I know it cant be a power supply issue because I just bought an OCZ 520W Powerstream which is supposed to be one of the best PSU you can buy. so right now I'm clueless as to whats going on.

so can someone throw me a lifeline or two as to why I'm getting less performance now than I was before with only one video card? I sure hope I just didnt throw $500 away because if I did, I'm going to be sick to my stomach... :(

I have a very close system to yours, things to check for:
1- make sure both cards are same model ie: same bios.
2-make sure your SLI bridge is connected
3-switch the jumpers on the DFI boards (the ones between the two cards)
4-make sure your monitor is connected to the first card (slot closer to CPU)

Software:

1-make sure SLI is enabled in Nvidia utility
2-I would also try to clean reinstall the driver with the two cards int here now.

you should get over 10500 with your setup, I have the X2 4400+, dfi , and two 7800gtx and I get 10670 running stock.

Good luck.

Hard some weird problems with my 7800GTX only getting 5800 or so 3DMARK 2005 score.. Removed NVIDIA Drivers, and reinstalled - got 7819 points..
You have the forceware 6.66 drivers installed right? for PCIE, and LAN (don't install the IDE drivers).

With my SLI setup

2xEVGA 7800GTX underclocked to 430/1200 (from 450/1200)
EPOX 9NPA+SLI
AMD X2 4200+
2 GB of CORSAIR VALUE RAM (2T 4 x 512)
Not Overclocked

i'm geting - 10029 3DMARKS (05)

Why are you underclocking your cards?

Why are you underclocking your cards?

Because 2 7800GTX == extra heat..

The perfomance increase w/ a slightly higher core clock is negligible at best.
