holy crap and that is only at 1280 too... it will get even hotter if you up to 1600 for the test... See if you can melt or cook something (it is like a PC and an Easy Bake Oven all in ONE!)

Your ambient temp of 81C is WAY TOO HIGH !!!

So you should start by greatly improving your case cooling. Since any reduction in case ambient will automatically reduce your cards gpu temp !

Also, check, with NiBiTor v2.3, if your 3D fan speed is set for 100%.

1] Rmove the Cabinet's side panel.
2] Check if the FAN is actually working (by holding a thin piece of paper at the 3 sides. as shown here

3] Check Rivatuner to confirm the temps.
4] are these idle or load temps.
5] After starting it, switch off the comp, touch the Card's Back copper plate to check whether its very hot or no. (in my case its touchable.) This is to confirm wheather its Sensor prorblem or no.
6] if all fail, RMA!

I have a Coolermaster Stacker case with 12 fans and the crossblow fan

The side panel is removed and that is what I'm getting 116C

I took the card back to my supplier I have one months warrenty left according to them the ball bearing are FUBAR.

They do not have any 6800 GT stock so they are going to credit me the money so I I get some more cash PCIX and 7800GTX here I come.

81C Ambient is insane... Your 12 fans must be off... I have half the fans you have and my temps are around the high 30s to low 40s (Current Idle is 28C).

That must be a record if not the temp sensors are screwed up. im surpised even windows works for ya with that temps.

I've been up around 110. I forgot to reconnect the 2 pin fans to the card after I put on some new thermal paste. I started up some HL2 and checked temps and almost pooped.

Case cooling or not, if those fans on the video card aren't running, you're done. Most stock heatsinks have a hood on them (plastic or metal) that keep your case fans from doing much for them.

Are the card overclocked? Did you modded it to 1.4v?

I have the same card, I'm using 420/1120 MHz, getting 60C on iddle, and 82C on full load! But my ambient temp here in my room is like 28-30C (Brazil!) :)

Good luck,
AleX
