Its all estimates at this point...its pretty safe to say that Hammer will scale up as the processor gets faster. Much as nobody would want to use an Athlon XP at 800mhz....y'know.

you're right. it was an 800MHz Hammer sample beating a 1.6GHz P4

and the Hammer was using CL2.5 DDR33 :p

You guys are starting to convince me on the Hammer, I still have my doubts, but if the hammer turns out to be anything like what you guys are saying I will get one over a Pentium 4. But only if it is as stable as the Pentiums, I don't want any issues if I get one. At what clock speed will it be released at? and when? I might just buy one of both, you know... just for the fun of it.

It should definitely be as stable as the Pentium. Plus it is set to have a heatspreader! :)

as long as it doesn't burn thru the motherboard or cause my expensive video card, will be NV30 by them, to burn.

the .13micron paired with a heatspreader should keep them as cool as Intel's.

if that happens we can safely blame user stupidity

but by virtue of being stupid, a stupid user wouldn't blame himself, he would blame AMD :D ;) :p

I wonder how often that actually happens

Youd be surprised at how many stupid stupid people are out there. Back when I was doing computer tech work, right when the Athlon 1ghz chips hit stores (The very next day actually).. a guy brought his PC in, complaining that it wasnt running.

I plugged it in, and watched smoke coming off the CPU.
I took off the heatsink, and sure enough.. the dumbass didnt take off the tape that covers the thermal compound on the heatsink. So, he screwed himself pretty bad. Needless to say, after he left we laughed about it for days. It still brings a smile to my face.

The stupid-computer user post that someone made on the old forum with a link to that site was hilarioud.

A bunch of people who didn't mount HSFs on a TBird or XP chip, and most of the time the chip desoldered itself.
