Just like the title says, what is the absolute beat-all, end-all 4:3 LCD monitor on the market today (for gaming)? No I will not be buying whatever it is that is the best (just bought a new LCD and am quite happy with it) anytime soon as I'm just curious.

Aren't most "gaming" LCDs 1280x1024?? which is 5:4 or something. For 4:3 you'd need a 1024x768 or a 1600x1200 panel. I dunno I'm prob wrong, just something I heard.

No 4:3 is same ratio for all those resolutions.

Widescreen resolutions are 16:9, 16:10...

Dunno any 5:4s though.

I just checked, a 1280x1024 display is indeed 5:4, alot of gaming LCDs are 5:4 so finding a decent 4:3 display might be tricky.

This site (http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/auth/aspect.html), while not too flash offers a little info on the different ratios and how some images can look wired on a 5:4 panel

Just found this site (http://www.hitmill.com/html/screen.html), it has some better info

lol. It doesn't matter, I was considerering 1280x1024 as 4:3 anyways. Besides, like I said I don't plan on buying a new LCD anytime just mostly trying to see how mine stacks up against the competition. :D

best 4:3 for gaming is no question the viewsonic VP191b. An INSANE response time of 8ms and all the reviews say it's color reproduction is the best of the bunch.

However, I cannot in good faith recommen a 4:3 monitor with the way the industry is going. I would say get a widescreen as that is the way gaming seems to be going thanks to the XBOX360 and PS3. Nearly all future games will be written with widescreen support. For that, I'd recommend this monitor (VP231wb).

It's a bit pricy and if you can't afford it go with the Dell 2405W

Yes jonk I know that.

I am getting close to enough money for the HDTV (http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?prod_id=LNR328WX%252fXAA) I have been saving up for (to replace my old Widescreen CRT HDTV).

The only problem with widescreen LCD's at this point is the response time isnt as low as I would like them to be YET. I'm sure by next year they will be and thats when I will go and get a 24' or so widescreen.
