View Full Version : Any Thoughts on this?....

OK, so I've decided that I'm going to go 64bit Duel core in the winter because id like to see the prices drop a little more on the duel cores and to be honest all my games are more than playable. However, I would like to start the upgrade now with some more memory as this will keep my 32bit system pumping while I wait to upgrade to 64bit in a few months :) Plus memory is dirt cheap right now compaired to what it used to be and I want to snatch some up before it goes up again. Thinking of overclockability and 64bit duel core compatability (hell .. even 32bit compatability for now)... which of the two memory sets would you get?? (click on links gets you price and specs)

1 GB (2 pcs 512MB) DDR (400) PC-3200 Corsair w/LED Display (TWINX1024-3200XLPRO) (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140145&Category_Code=Unbuffered_Corsair)
and either add this to my current memory (only Value Select I have now so I would lose some of the benifit of nice timings on buying this)
..or get 2 of these sets for a total of 4 x 512mb of this specific memory

2 GB (2 pcs 1GB) DDR (400) PC-3200 Corsair w/LED Display (TWINX2048-3200C2PRO) (http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=140577&Category_Code=Unbuffered_Corsair)

Let me know your thoughts. Memory is often overlooked by alot of people but is clearly a very important part. Im looking to keep this memory for awhile and move it to my 64bit duel core system in a few months and also plan on using it in my 32bit system for now. 1T vs 2T does not concern me to much (if I can have it cool .. if not... oh well). But what does concern me is latency timings and overclockability. Thanks! :D

OK scratch that ... after doing some research it is clear 2 1gig sticks are much better and might even hit 1T.
However... what would you buy (both sets being 2 sticks of 1gig)..

Corsair XMS with timings of 2-3-3-6 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS @ 2.6v)
OCZ Platinum with timings of CL 2-3-2-5 (CAS-TRCD-TRP-TRAS @ 2.6v) (under warrenty through 2.8v)

I plan to order one of these tonight so help a guy out! ;)

OCZ, I'm going to try sending 2.8 + v to mine to see if I can get it down to 2-2-2-5 when it comes in on Monday. The Corsair is actually only rated for 2.5 cas on A64s.

Sweet .. thanks for the info. Im getting it for $273 before a $25 mail in rebate ... seems like a deal I can't pass up... plus I have heard only good things about OCZ. Ordering now .. thanks :)
