View Full Version : Is 7800 GTX the top of the line, or will there be another release in a month?
Some free advice: get over it and get a life.
Err, yes, that is good advice.;)

Nvidia OWES me a mobo that doesn't corrupt my downloads.
There are workarounds. Search through these forums and Google it. If not, spend $10 on a PCI network card. Heaven knows you can afford it.
By the way, have you tried running your system at stock speeds to see if that fixes any of your issues?
They also owe me drivers without bugs.
:rofl
Good one. I hope when you make the switch that you don't plan on playing anything that uses OpenGL.
I know that the usual cycle is 6 months between products. I just felt that I had been steered towards the 256GTX's and they were to be the shiznit for the next 6 months.
You're a marketing team member's wet dream. But you make it sound as if what you bought is now no good, and there is absolutely no reason to feel this way. None.
Some free advice: get over it and get a life (or some compassion).
Compassion for someone who is sitting around bitching and moaning like a spoiled child? I don't think so, Tim.

Yeah, you pretty much covered everything I was going to say. Good work. ;)
Nope, but it doesn't need to be.
Whether it needs to be or not is a different matter...but I have heard from a few sources that 90nm gXX parts have taped out, specifically to compete with with r580...then again these are rumours

The first R580 die already taped out in mid summer and they're stockpiling them for a grand launch after the Xmas season.
Not that I don't believe you or that I don't believe ATI could do this- just for accuracy sake, you wouldn't happen to have a link would you?
the actual story is that IMO Xfire(one) is almost like a dead fetus in the womb,Xfire2 is what ati is working on right now to replace the aborted Xfire(one).
This seems unlikely. ATI is merely going through what nVidia did when they first released the NF4 SLi MCPs. Give XFire some time. It'll mature. As it is, dual X850s in XFire can offer pretty sweet performance, minus PS/VS 3.0 and HDR glory of course! ;)
"Play a bit more fairly" LOL like nVidia has to stop its product cycle just to appease your ego.
Well said! :D :D

Keep in mind ATI's recent drivers DO bring a performance bump- TO A CURRENTLY NON EXISTENT CARD!!!

Me neither.

Again, Linky???
Geebs- here's my system:
s754 A64 2800, 1GB DDR400 CAS3
6800GT
Onboard Soundmax audio
2x80GB hard drives (one is ATA100 w/2MB cache, the other is ATA133 w/8MB cache)
Samsung SyncMaster 955DF(x) (19" CRT)
I can't afford a mobo that even has PCI-e, let alone a s939 cpu, nor dual channel ram- and my vcard is now taking the route of the FX5950U.
Your system is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than mine--- AND YOU ARE COMPLAINING??????
Go, switch to ATI. Order an X1800XT RIGHT NOW. And please, report back when it finally arrives. Also, be certain to give us your XFire performance results- NEXT YEAR WHEN THE BOARDS AND MASTER CARDS FINALLY ARRIVE.
Dude, you need to learn what it is to be satisfied and conent. Sometimes you just CAN'T have the best FOREVER. Things are BOUND to become obsolete or loose value over time.
Since you have the "have-to-have-the-latest-and-greatest" bug, you made a VERY poor purchasing decision. The rumors of an improved GTX were everywhere. All you HAD to do was wait. Wait what? A month? Two months? Would that REALLY have killed you? I almost think so.
Guess what, Geebs- AMD is gonna' release a new socket next year. You might as well switch over to Intel while your at it. Cause your fancy FX-55 or X2 4800 or whatever proc you currently own will no longer be the best and it's socket wont even be "the best" anymore, either.
So, you now are gonna' go the way of ATI and Intel. Beautiful. Talk about REAL gaming bliss, right? Well, since you're so wealthy- you'd probably enjoy the P4 more as it doubles as a space heater- convenient, eh?
One other thing most ANY 7xxx or R5xx owner should realise- these cards will be replaced by G80 NEXT YEAR.
The ushering in of a new API requires new cards to handle that API. Neither the G7x nor the R5xx support DX10.
So, my advice is be satisfied you still have one of the fastest gaming rigs possible. Secondly, hold off on ANY upgrade untill later next year when we'll see the new sockets from AMD, Windows Vista from MS, AND the new GPUs from ATI and nVidia.
But, if you decide to dump your system- atleast be so kind to give it to somebody whom would actualy REALISE that the system isn't SO bad- such as myself or many other forum members.
Heck, I'll pay S&H and whatever tax might be applied if you'd give me your system.

Watch out. You're going to get a lame PM from him telling you to leave him alone.

I'd send him a box of tissues and a violin, but he has A LOT more $$$ than I- he can get em him self.
God, right now I'd be happy if I could afford just ONE X1800XT or 7800GT- but as that'd require upgrading my mobo, cpu, and getting another 2x512MB of ram it is WELL out of my price range.
Some people never realise how good they have it- untill it is all gone.
