looks like7800GT"forced a large bag of nails in to the coffin of the Radeon X850 XT PE"
thanks for the heads up...but i just dont think this constitutes a rumor...this is something that happens ever new product cycle..

Thanx for the heads up.
Yep... If u ask me the 850 was dead before it
was even released. I've never even looked at buying
ATI since the 68xx come out. Nvidia has more features
and the speed to boot.
ATI needs to learn we do not want warmed over products
from 18 months ago.
ATI needs to get there head out of someones ass and
put out new products. Not old warmed over tech. "just my 2 cents"
Yea, ATI 5800 Ultra anyone? :D
Does it even matter? The 7800GT still whoops the X850XT PE and still have more features, no matter how much they cut the price, no one is gonna buy obsolete SM2.0 cards anymore.

If they lower the price enough they'll continue to sell, SM2 or not.

Yep, it will sell. Just look at the FX5200 which sold tons for nV eventhough there were better and faster alternatives out on the market.

well fx 5200 still sells because its very cheap considering the price 44-54$.
I dont think you'll ever see X850 in that price range.

Oh, I disagree, go to rage3d and you'll find plenty willing to buy one. Remember here on nvnews "sm3.0 means everything". And on rage "sm3.0 means nothing". ;)
It also depends on how much they lower the price. You figure a 7800GT, 20-pipes, is $399. So they better knock the x850 to at least $299 if they want to rid themselves of a decent amount of volume.
Anyone that buys a X850XT PE is dumb. ATI's own SM3.0 parts are coming out soon and the 7800GT just mangles it in performance. You can see any of the previews on the web, and soon Rage3d should have their own preview of the 7800GT out. Obsolete parts should be left buried 6 feet under.

I'm not sure how much Ati will be able to lower the Prices on the x850 products. If they lower it too much, they'll have to lower their midrange cards as well or else they'll be competing against their own cards in the lower/mid range.

Well, for a while I was considering getting an X850XT PE to replace my 5950Ultra, but after I found the XFX 6800GT for only $275 at Monarch, well, I kissed the X850XT PE good bye. With a good enough OC, I'll be seeing X850XT PE performance on the 6800GT while enjoying SM3.0 and PROPER HDR!!! :D :D :D

Who were the two forum members here who work at a southern California computer store?
To them: How many ATi video cards have you sold in the past 6 months? Is the nVidia:ATi ratio like 20:1?

Prices have already fallen big time. I got a two X800XT PE for under $250 and if I was quick enough I would have got a X850 for $230. Only problem now is getting rid of one as I wasnt fast enough to cancel it.

Whoever wrote that small snippet needs to learn how to read better. The Xbitlabs article he links to states:
6800ultra $399 (original MSRP of $499)
6800gt $299 (from $399 MSRP)
6800 $199 (from $299 MSRP)
Of course most of these price cuts from Nvidia had already been realized on many online retailers even before the announcement. Hopefully, the official reduction of these cards' MSRP will bring down the prices even more.

Yeah, I had bought an XFX 6800GT (AGP) for $275 @ monarchcomputer.com and that was about a week or so before nVidia "official" lowered the prices.
Go figure.

The X850 XT PE is still a great card and the fastest AGP solution for those who haven't migrated to PCI-e yet. It spanks the 6800 Ultra in most games except Doom III and Open GL. I would pick one up for $300. It would beat my 6800 GT. I'm not too concerned about SM 3.0 anyway.

No it does not. Both cards achieved a good level of parity. Also the PE is called the "Phantom Edition" for some reason (too litle, too late,to few)

Any benches to support that claim? From what I've seen the X850XT will smoke the 6800GT and also beats out the 6800 Ultra in most cases.
And for the record I am new here in the nVidia forum, have own both brand of cards.
And yes I prefer ATI over nVidia, but wanted to see the benches to back up your claim, that's all. ;)
The X850XT-PE is an extremely fast card, even w/ SM3.0. I'm not confenced that there is any difference visually or performance wise with SM3.0 vs. SM2.0. At least not in todays games.
Thanks for the ear....

well thats what i think if the cards would be sold at same price
x800gt fast as 6600gt (130$)
x800gt256mb faster than 6600gt (170$)
x800gto (x800gt256 with 12 pipe) faster than 6800256mb (240$)
x800xl fast as 6800gt (299$)
7800gt faster than x800xtpe (399$)
7800gtx has no competitors (499$)
the world is changed now ehe
nvidia control high performance sector while ati wins in mid-range one
for the moment :)
